What do you need at a university town?
Bookstores? Maybe.
Educational institutions? Probably.
Bars and coffee shops? Absolutely!
Filling the need for a quality coffee shop just off the Indiana University campus, surrounded by fraternity and sorority houses, is the Inkwell.
It has a suitably bohemian, vegan, alternative lifestyle vibe while still being welcoming to the larger community. Prices are quite reasonable, as perhaps befits a coffee shop just off a college campus. On the downside, my chai latte was tasty, nicely spiced but not as hot as I would have hoped.
Pro Tip
There are a couple of tables at which to enjoy your coffee outside the shop along Atwater Road, a nice place to people-watch and enjoy the weather.

Great coffee and delicious food. Can get crowded on the weekends but there is a good amount of seating available.

Great egg and avocado toast on wheat bread. Yummy cappuccino and the nicest service - super friendly. People working on laptops there… a half block from the biology building and easy parking. Nice spot! My son Tim goes there most everyday before work :)

Good vibe. It’s not exactly out of the way but it’s located off of the main roads which makes it feel a little more intimate. The baristas are all university students. They’re open until 5 but the kitchen closes at 3.
I had the loaded hummus toast, a rainbow cookie, and a green rooibos tea. The hummus toast was just one piece of toast but actually pretty substantial with lots of hummus. I was actually pretty impressed with this. All the toppings and the hummus went together really well. The cookie was a classic soft sugar cookie with rainbow sprinkles, nostalgic. The tea was also good quality. I don’t think I’ve seen green rooibos at a coffee shop before so I was happy to have it here.

I’ve gone here 3 times and the last 2 times my drink tastes like warm milk with a hint flavor, very bland and over priced, stay away
Barista was really rude, didnt look up at us once and was not respectful

I got a turkey sandwich to go and they forgot to put turkey on the sandwich :(( my matcha was also very diluted with lots of milk and very little matcha.
The coffee and food here were good. I liked the diner style seating format. They were extremely nice.

You guys are usually a good stop but you gave me an almost completely rotten avocado toast this morning. I couldn’t eat it and wasted $7 for a piece of bread covered in

My favorite coffee shop in Bloomington. The atmosphere is so welcoming and personable, it’s unlike any other coffee shop I’ve experienced in Indiana. Great seasonal drinks and food. Highly recommend!
