I went to Roots Burger Bar solely because I had read that the former owner of Scotty’s owned this. I gave too much credit to that old memory.
I entered the business and asked for a table. They asked if a high top table was OK. I told her that I would prefer a normal table (due to a back problem that I have). She replied, “we really only have high top tables left.” OK, whatever. Why bother asking my preference if you’re not going to give me what I ask for?
I was seated at a high top table, then looked immediately to my left and saw two normal tables right next to me. WTH???
I saw that they had a $.90 wings special today. I always loved the huge wings that they sold at Scotty’s Brewhouse, so I ordered a couple of those to go with my PB&J burger. I was asked if I wanted my wings before my burger came out, or with the burger. I opted to get them before.
A few minutes later, my burger showed up. No wings. I had to ask for the wings to be brought out.
Whoever put my burger together had the motor skills of a one-year-old. The patties, cheese, and bacon were all askew. They were nowhere close to being stacked on the bun. I basically had to re-assemble my sandwich. The bottom bun was so soggy that it immediately started to fall apart. The grape jelly was all on one side of the burger, and the tiny blob of peanut butter was on the opposite side. You would think they might’ve put those together…
The seasoned fries were OK. I tried some of their fry sauce, because they seem to make a big deal of it here. It just tastes like a really watered-down honey mustard.
When the wings showed up, I almost laughed out loud. They are no bigger than what you get at Buffalo Wild Wings. I really thought they would be the large ones that they used to sell at Scotty’s, but I was wrong again.
Their iced tea was almost clear. It was the weakest tea I’ve had in a long time.
The restaurant was so loud that I couldn’t hear my waitress talking to me. The noise level was ridiculous.
Overall, the food was average at best. Presentation was terrible. The price wasn’t too bad. My waitress was really nice, and she was probably the high point of the whole dining experience (thanks, Anjana).
I don’t mind giving places a second chance, but it’s probably going to be a while before I try to come back here. Everything about it was underwhelming.

Great little burger bar with lots of charm. It's a rather small place but they have regular seating, high tops as well as a bar. Additionally, they have outside seating. Diona was our waitress. She was super friendly and extremely helpful. I really enjoy these smash burgers as well as the fries. I also love that you get a bucket of popcorn while you wait.

This is a very nice neighborhood bar. They have awesome dinner specials every night. Frozen wine slushies anyone? Great place to meet with friends.

Lots of delicious burgers and rotating beers. If you're not feeling a burger, there's many other options as well. The staff/management are wonderful and will take great care of you!

We love coming to Roots for the casual bar feel and we never leave feeling disappointed! However, today we had such a wonderful service experience with Maddie that we needed to leave a review. She was so fast, thoughtful, and polite. We would return simply for the service! We tried the July burger of the month and I’m requesting that the horse radish egg salad be a permanent menu item 😉

Took my husband and kids here for the kids eat free Tuesday. I understand that restaurants get busy but we waited 45 minutes to even get our drinks and that was after we spoke to a manager. They got my daughters order wrong and my food wasn’t even room temp which normally I would have let go but they completely forgot my husbands meal and just said “I’m sorry.” The girl that was our waiter was new so I did my best to let a lot of stuff slide and spoke with the manager again and she said that she would take off my other daughters meal and when we got our bill back after they ran our card already, $72 freaking dollars. How is that possible for 1 meal when kids eat free?! We looked at the receipt and they charged us for the other kids meal because my husband didn’t have an “entree” even though they are the ones that forgot to even put the order in. And then proceeded to charge $9 for a side of fries. At most this meal should have been $13.99 for my burger and $15 for our 5 drinks. When we saw the receipt, my husband went back inside and waited 10 minutes to talk to someone to fix it and no one ever came. At some point we had to cut our losses and say screw it. There is a reason this place only has 4 stars. Don’t waste your money or time because I promise you that is what it will be.
Also, I wanted to note that I did not see a single adult working besides the bartender. There were teenagers serving alcohol to guests which if I remember correctly the liquor license age in Indiana is 18 so allowing them to do so is illegal.
Love the food and staff. Don't like the hard seats and ice cold temperatures.

Burger and a beer on Thursday night was $9. It was a pretty small burger, but it was good. Service was a bit slow; we didn’t get our beers until the burgers came out. For anyone that had been to Scotty’s back in the day, it’s the same vibe.

Tightly packed space but the food was delicious. I got the Garlic Burger. It was the messiest burger I have ever had but it was full of delicious flavor. Also enjoyed the tots with their special sauce. The waitress was very friendly and attentive.
