I left the bar after talking to a man who was completely cool with me and help him get a menu(she's not paying attention). She eventually took the order and at the end I made an obvious joke, that I needed a new beer(I did). And I jokingly said he'd pay for it. She flipped out.

Iâm not sure if this was racism, a bartender having a bad night, or simply the wrong person behind the bar but my experience at Spankyâs on Christmas Eve (12/24/2025) was unacceptable. I attended with two friends (three of us total). When we arrived, we were asked for IDs (which is normal), but instead of handing them back to us like everyone else, the bartender skipped our hands and slid them across the counter. That immediately felt off. Throughout the night, all three of us on separate occasions and separate tabs were barely spoken to, waved off, and treated dismissively while ordering drinks. I personally ordered twice! 1 being $10 the other being $4 totalling out to $14 worth of drinks (rum and coke, which was extremely weakâmostly coke, would not recommend), and 3 beers , I closed out each time because I donât open tabs, and I always tip, either mid-visit or at the end. While purchasing the $4 beers, the bartender said, â tipping is a option I donât work for free tipping is mandatory,â while pushing my receipt on the table, not looking at me, and walking away with a attitude. Her friends at the bar were laughing, making sly comments, and encouraging the behavior. I was already planning to tip, but after being spoken to and treated like that, I didnât. I told her plainly that she wouldnât be getting a tip now. Separately, my friend (on his own account) went to order drinks and was not served at all, and she also spoke aggressively to him. When one of us understandably got upset and had a dispute with the bartender, the bartenderâs friends inserted themselves into the situation AGAIN, which escalated it further. Thatâs when more arguments broke out, voices were raised more, and people were eventually kicked out. What makes this worse is that we were not drunk, not obnoxious, and not causing issues. We were sober, quietly playing pool. We were regulars before this and had never had a problem, even being comfortable as the only Black people there most times. We didnât even finish the beers I bought. This entire experience was hostile, unprofessional, and disappointing. If I could give zero stars, I would. (never told her name but she was white with a black bob on the shorter side) .

Didnât get a chance to try the food. Called at 8:30 pm thinking hey they are open till THREE AM gotta serve food till at least midnight. Nope kitchen apparently closes at 9pm so you know just 6 more hours for people to get drunk as hell and have no food to at least try and help sober them up. Loosing out on so much money I bet cause why you open 6 More hours and not serving food?

I didn't order any food when I recently visited Spanky's - a bar and grill located in a small strip mall located at 15213 101st Ave. in Dyer, Indiana. I had a few drinks, served by the very kind bartenders, and really enjoyed the live music with my friends and family! You can smoke in the bar, but it is pretty well venhilated, according to my non-smoking friends. There is a decent sized stage, plenty of space to sit at at the bar or at the tables in front of the stage, and there wasn't a wait for the bathrooms. There were three stalls available in the ladies room, which were clean, and it was nice not having to wait! Prices for the drinks were very reasonable. If music isn't your thing, there were plenty of TV's to watch - showing the news, gameshows, and sports games. I had an awesome time, they had amazing musicians, and I look forward to going back soon!
Parking: Because the bar is located within a strip club, parking can be limited. There are signs in front of the businesses that state only customers for that business can park there. There IS free, additional parking located behind the strip mall, though.
Kid-friendliness: This is a bar that features adult music. You might just want to leave the children at home with a baby sitter if you're going late!
Wheelchair accessibility: There are parking spots for disabled individuals. Those with wheelchairs shouldn't have much trouble navigating the single level bar.
