Im a trucker, this is my first stop here. Walking my dog around seemed nice, but seeing police coming through my parking lot was awesome!

I've been going to Callahan's for decades and I've always had good food and good service. This past meal, I got the steak sandwich with onion soup and cottage cheese. It was fantastic, filling, and priced right.

Everything is homemade from scratch, and DELICIOUS! my husband is in love with the biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs on top. My personal pick is the BLT club, it comes with a soup (no substitutions and trust me you wouldn't want to miss out on the soup) and another side of a selection. I get a salad. But I also love the all meat omelette with pancakes... I promise this food all but makes you want to cry when you eat it.

Wonderful place, I absolutely loved the chicken noodle soup as it was as if Mom had made it! The pork chops my husband had was super delicious! Next time we are crossing the country again it will be a definite stop for us!!

I asked my sister that has been living in North Carolina for the last 5 years where she would like to go eat that she doesn't have in North Carolina. Without hesitation, she said Callahan's!!!

I've never written a review before, but this one was much needed. My Mom took my brother and I out to dinner here and our waitress, Kristi, was easily the BEST waitress I have ever had in all 16 and a half years of my life. The food was good too, but that's not important. This is about Kristi. I don't even know how to begin to describe just how amazing she was. I will 100% be coming back for as long as she works there.

The food tastes unique and tastes good. It is eaten in a pleasant family atmosphere with excellent attention and the food with a seasoning and a taste, which is always worth returning.

I used to go to Callahan's until I walked in the other day and saw the sign on the door that said they are now adding 3% on my charge card when paying. I turned around and my party and I walked out. I will not be back.

So bad experience is the second time I went there and you have to ask what part of the menu they have not what you want I ask for a plate and there where out I ask for dessert they don’t have and also when I went to pay the cashier was so rude so bad experience

Callahans Family Restaurant, just off I 80-90 at Elkhart, is worth a stop anytime of the day. Heading between Chicago and Cleveland there are not a lot of choices as the travel stops on I 80-90 are terrible. This place has a broad menu, great specials, and down home, home made, food at extremely reasonable prices. We couldn’t decide what to have. The choices were great- from burgers and salads to turkey and gravy and chicken (or sausage) parmigiana. There is also a selection of serious senior dinners (discounted from the main menu listings but the same size portions). And the portions are huge and dinners come with 2 sides AND ice cream or rice pudding. We both decided that liver and onions would be our dinners. We had the daily soup - Navy Bean- and baked potatoes. Great choice. The liver portions were generous and perfectly cooked and loaded with sautéed onions. The soup was wonderful- home made, full of ham, beans, carrots, and celery. The taste was perfect and the cup could almost have been a meal itself. The baked potatoes were humongous and tasty with butter and sour cream offered in the side. The rice pudding was good also. Cinnamon sprinkled on top added a little spice and the pudding was not too sweet as is often the case. They have an amazing assortment of fresh pies, cakes, and pastries available for dessert. (I am guessing that the baking is done locally, but not at the diner. I could be wrong.) I could not resist taking home a chocolate pastry because it looked so good. The service was friendly and lively (good) and there were plenty of locals eating there even though it is right off the interstate. This is a great place to stop if you’re on the highway and hungry. You can avoid the chain restaurants of Mishawaka and the dreadful rest stops on the Interstate and enjoy a true taste of the American Midwest. Highly recommended.
