We came to French Lick for skiing and discovered German Café, and it was a very pleasant surprise. The restaurant is incredibly cozy and instantly reminded us of places we’ve visited in Europe. That makes sense, as it’s owned by a European couple, and you can really feel the long-standing family traditions throughout the space.
The atmosphere is warm and inviting, the food was excellent, and the Oktoberfest beer was outstanding. Our waitress, Lakyn, was very kind and welcoming, which made the experience even better. We enjoyed it so much that we came back the next day.
Thank you for a great experience — if we’re ever back in the area, we’ll definitely visit again.

We stopped in for dinner. We were seated quickly and given menus. After 25 minutes of reading the menu and looking some of the foods on our phones so we would know what they were. We decided that listening to the waitress chit-chating at the bar with the one person there that it was time to leave. So it is now crossed of our list of places to visit.

What a jewel of a find if you at all like German food and beer! Tremendous schnitzel and homemade kraut and sides. We look forward to the next encounter!

Being raised in a Mennonite/Amish home and having lived in Germany, I know good German food. The German Cafe is the best German restaurant in Indiana (truthfully the best German restaurant I’ve been to anywhere outside of Germany). We have been coming to Frenchlick Indiana for 30 years and we always include AT LEAST one meal at the German Cafe!
Supposed to open today at 11:00. Arrived at 4:00. Waited until 5:00. No sign in window indicating closure. I called and message confirmed it should be open. Very disappointed.

We actually found this restaurant on accident, and oh boy how glad am I we did! We had a wonderful time, and had some of the best sausage and schnitzel I’ve ever had here! A cozy atmosphere brings life to a great meal. Can’t wait to return!
