This place is a has been. For many years the line waiting to be seated was long with an hour wait being common. The staff was always courteous and efficient.Food was great. I was one of their first customers in 1974 and ate there for years. Living in Crown Point we do not get to Hammond as often. Went there Sunday November 2 no wait, only about one third seating taken. Our server finally took our drink and appetizer order after we asked a bus person if we could get a server. She then spent about 15 minutes talking to a party of four of her friends. We ate the appetizer and waited 25 minutes to order.I got up and left, leaving half of my beer untouched. My wife finally flagged down the server and asked for the check. The server did not seem too concerned that we were unhappy and that I had walked out. Raymundo, your food is great, your service is terrible.I know that you probably will not feel the effect of us not returning but it is what it is. If the place was very busy I would allow for less than stellar service, but with only a third of the seats occupied I am very dismayed. Server senora Zochilt have a blessed day.

Very generic Mexican food! Would not recommend! Salsa is nothing but tomatoes, no spice, and everything else is nothing but tomatoes! They should be called El Tomato Real!

I have nothing against El Taco Real, but it seems to be the favorite Mexican restaurant of quite a few non-Mexican people I know. I know someone who lives in Lowell and drives all the way to Hammond for this restaurant, when Mi Ranchito in Lowell has better food.
El Taco Real, for their taco toppings on the menu, list lettuce, tomato, and cheese. This is strictly American. I asked the waitress if I could have just cilantro and onion, and she agreed with me that’s the only way to eat them.
If you aren’t Mexican (and I’m not) and you casually go to Mexican restaurants, this is a great place to go. If you’re like me and like to go to places where most of the clientele are Mexican, there are other choices in Lake County that have excellent authentic food for way less money.
They do have Negra Modella, so that’s a huge plus!

It's been years since I've been here
But I would never recommend a place that serves old rotten meat

Sadly, we won't be back anymore. Tonight, it was cheaper to buy on Doordash with tip and delivery fee than you just charged me in person. Your online menu is also incorrect. There was a HUGE price jump. And you said Doordash wasn't updated yet, but that's not MY fault. I could click purchase right now for less. But I drove 20 minutes and my son was hungry so we just paid it, but never again.
We won't be back. Almost $40 for 2 appetizers and a kids side of rice for carryout. I could dine in at El Salto for a full meal or get a full size Birria meal at Monarcas for the same price.
We love the queso fundido, but we won't be back. The only menu item worth eating is the Queso Fundido and its not worth paying a full meal price for an appetizer. Insane.
