We went there ordered and it took like 25 minutes with no one in the restaurant. It wasn’t clean. Chairs were sticky and the place didn’t look very clean. The food was a medium sized potato with shrimp (small) and it didn’t have any taste and the so called steak looked like a for Of ground beef/cut up Salisbury steak. For 18$ I could’ve gotten a real steak. Not impressed whatsoever. Not recommend

I purchased 2 surf and turf potato’s and a shrimp potato , i would give the food a 3/5. The potato’s were great size and the cheese was good, it was the meat that was a problem. The “steak” tasted like Salisbury steak, it wasnt actual steak. I feel as though for $18 it would’ve sufficed for actual steak although I understand in this economy. The shrimp was okay. The service was great, they were super nice I just feel for the price and wait time the quality of the meat could’ve been better .

The fries weren’t fresh at all. The chicken had a decent amount of flavor but nothing to go crazy about. The egg rolls were also not fresh. I think this place has potential. More Alfredo sauce on the fries. Maybe change the grease out? It was just dry.

The floor was sticky. They have not mopped in weeks. Under all the windows there is a pile of drywall dust. The windows are dirty. Must do better.

Don’t not eat here. This place is nasty and dirt kitchen isn’t clean! Owner doesn’t wash hand before he makes the food! Looks like he just hopped out the bed ! And I seen mice droppings! Really nasty restaurant

Just blew me, taking these big bites trying to get to the pot roast. It's full of macaroni, potatoes, a carrot, a piece of pot roast. I read the menu and chose pot roast, because it didn't come with other ingredients...! More importantly, the darn meat. I had to rip it open to make sure I had the right order...! I'm highly disappointed!
This place is just okay. The prices are right, can't beat their soul food specials. However, the Pot Roast ain't it, no flavor. The bacon on my baked potatoes, some parts you can't eat, it's either hard or something. The wait was WAY longer than estimated. How do you wait on sweet potatoes at a Potato Express place?

Today 10/15/2024My husband and I decided to try this black owned restaurant (Potato Express) in Hammond Indiana and let me tell you it was awful. The first red flag was when we called to ask what comes on a veggie potato. We were told it depends on what veggies they have that day…. So today they had corn,carrots ,broccoli, mushrooms, tomato red and green bell peppers. The veggie’s could have been cooked a bit longer. My husband got the pot roast potato and it was a small potato that they put mashed potatoes on top of and drowned it in gravy. He also got the smothered chicken potato and it was flavorless. This food was garbage and anyone who gives them a good review must be family.

Downtown Hammond doesn't offer much, but this place is pretty good. Nice folks. Good food with sizeable portions. The atmosphere is not what you are going for, but the folks and food are excellent.
