We come once or twice per year and only on birthdays to celebrate. Like the newer consolidated menu with new items. Food is always good and filling. Our chef Ernesto was fun and gave me birthday wishes. The downsides: There was no one at the checkin desk upon arrival. We waited 5 minutes so I had to go and find someone in the restaurant to help us. We had our own teppanaki table which was nice for once. The server/order taker girl never said welcome in and no happy birthday even after telling her why we were here. It was also in the reservation which asks you about a special occasion. She brought a pit of green tea that only had maybe 1 and 1/3 cups of tea in it so we asked for more which finally came but also not full. She also asked if we wanted the check and boxes halfway thru the meal. Once we were ready, she left the handheld card reader to pay amd started to walk off. I said I ordered the 6 course meal and want my dessert. She looked perturbed so I asked what flavors. Got that, ate and then left. Tough because we like the food but when service makes the experience less than great, especially in a special occasion, it makes really hard to come back.
Our experience was just ok this time. Our chef did a good job but didn't do much ‘entertaining'. We were celebrating a 14th bday and we were hoping for a little more pizazz. And embarrassing fun. It also seemed short staffed. The host was not super friendly when she sat us, kind of awkward. The chef took over an hour to come out and start cooking. I was just at the point of going to find someone to ask what was going on when the chef came out. I don't think the server explained that there would be an up charge for the chicken fried rice. Initially they asked if we wanted the birthday ice cream and song, we said yes but then they never came. At that point we were late for another reservation so we didn't ask anyone else about it. The price is so expensive I really wish we would have chosen something different for this birthday celebration. $600 for a party of 8 and feeling less than happy with the experience. Unfortunately.
Said they would pay for meal if everything took longer than 45 minutes and did not pay for meal. Food was not nearly as good as what I remember it to be. & for it to be expensive on top of all that? I was disappointed and probably won't ever come back.
Seems like our chef Vanessa is in training; tasteless food, no entertainments at all, no show, and our birthday request was not honored.
The decor is dated, the food was salty and not of quality like it used to to be. There are other places that have soared past this.
Was very disappointing. Place looked like a pigsty. Trash all over the floor in dining room and bar. Box on table in the bar, tables dirty. We had 10 people, celebrating a birthday, which was evident with presents and indicated on reservation. Did not acknowledge birthday, did not offer dessert at all.
When you are spending HUNDREDS of dollars for dinner (with a family of 5)- and have a reservation for 7:00 and don't get a glass of water until 7:45, you're regretting your decision pretty quickly. Said water would be nice to have a refill less than 40 minutes later. It would also be nice if your server knew the menu, having a hibachi cook that interacts or even speaks to you would be nice also. Getting the bill right would be nice. Never again, will we go to a Benihana or recommend one. The food tasted great- but after everything else, no way- don't go!!!
HORRIBLE HORRIBLE SERVICE! This was the first time I had ever patronized the restaurant and it will definitely be my last. I wish I could give the rating a zero. We were seated at 3:25 PM. There were literally 10 people in the restaurant when we were seated, we had a party of 9, it was NOT busy. No one checked on us until 3:54 PM so the birthday party sat there irritated and agitated until we finally got management to get someone to wait on us. We didn’t get our food until after 5:30pm! I wanted to leave, but I was there for a birthday dinner so I didn’t want to be rude, but I will say this I will never ever, ever patronize this restaurant again. This was one of the worst experiences ever and the birthday person was so upset. She said her birthday was ruined. And the food was nasty.🤢
Made my son birthday celebration a hot. We been celebrating our birthday every year since 2014
The floors were very dirty and so were the bathrooms. The food was good but portions were so very small. Service was not good on the drinks.

Our waitress was rude! Our reservation was for 12:30 PM and when we ordered, she assumed we wanted the dinner menu, but I was holding the lunch menu in my hand. When I asked if she knew we were ordering the lunch menu, she scoffed, rolled her eyes, and then said, Of course I didn't know you were ordering from the lunch menu!” Although I was holding it in my hand! When she came back around asking if we wanted another drink, we explained we had already ordered drinks from somebody else. She said, “Well, you're just going to have to tell me again because I'm going to have to get it from them anyway.” When it was time to pay the bill, we explained who is covering his ticket and she just threw her hands up in the air and then walked away. When she came back around, she tossed the ticket onto the table and left. The chef we had was impersonal and annoyed that one of the two guest was sharing a lunch meal. His performance was subpar. We actually had to leave immediately from eating because the table next to us had such a horrible stench coming from it that we couldn't breathe and were coughing terribly. Overall, our experience was not pleasant and we probably won't be returning. We were trying to celebrate both of our daughter's birthdays.
The establishment is old and antiquated. The tables were sticky. The restaurant looks tired. It needs a face lift inside and outdide. Our chef was great. The rest of the service was okay.
We were really disappointed with our experience. We waited nearly an hour before the chef even arrived at the table. For a bill of $150, we only ordered two entrées and one extra side of fried rice, and the value just wasn't there. Our waitress was very kind, but the overall experience still fell short. Before we were even seated, a gentleman approached me trying to pressure me into buying a holiday gift card on the spot, which felt extremely tacky. I've been going to Benihana for years, but unfortunately I won't be returning to the Indianapolis location.
The chef was superb and our server, Jasmine, is the best. Jasmine has waited on us before and is a winner!
The food was actually really good. The problem with Benihana is it is so hit or miss. The service was slow, but they were extra extraordinarily busy due to Veterans Day.
