I’m glad we made a reservation at Sakura. The place was packed when we arrived, which is usually a good sign. The food confirmed that. The sushi was some of the best I’ve had in Indianapolis, the freshness was apparent by the textures, and the miso soup was excellent. The restaurant was clean, the prices were reasonable, and the staff was friendly and attentive. Sakura fills up quickly, so it helps to plan ahead, but it’s worth it. I’m already looking forward to going back.

I love this sushi bar. They have a varied menu and the sushi always looks/smells/tastes very fresh.
One star off for atmosphere (with sushi that good, who cares about atmosphere?), but the lighting a high noise level could use an upgrade.

LOVE this space. Beware— there may be a wait on a weekend. I came around 7pm ish and there was a 10 min wait. The people who work here are so sweet! I got the udon and it felt so warm and cozy— good for a cold day. Their salad with ginger dressing is SO GOOD. If you’re not a fan of ginger, don’t fret. It’s not super gingery but full of umami! Great vibes here and such a cute spot

I've recommended this place to anyone looking for a more authentic japanese food experience. I know it doesn't look like much from the outside and can be a little off-putting, but it really is a hidden gem in Indy.

Top notch real Japanese meals including sushi, teriyaki, udon, donburi, and many more. The prices are very reasonable and the amount of food is above average compared to most traditional Japanese restaurant. Based on these three main factors, as an East Asian who have tasted food from thousands of Japanese restaurants, I would rate Sakura one of my top 2 picks for Japanese food among Indy.

The downside is it is easy to get a long waiting line in weekend nights so I suggest to avoid coming at busiest time.

Staff is friendly. Spaces between tables are typical Japanese size: not very roomy but you should have no problem sitting comfortably. Parking spaces just match the number of tables.

So yummy! The miso butter salmon appetizer was really good, so was everything else. Really interesting options. Friendly staff. Generous with their rice. Fair prices. Love it. :)
