The first problem is that this is a corporately owned restaurant, no longer a private family owned restaurant. That's the start of the problem. Waiter was excellent. But beyond that a very disappointing experience. No consistency in the meals ordered. One steak was fine. The other steak was returned three times and still served colder than room temperature. The whole experience seemed rushed and it appears to now be a "table turn" restaurant. Our full meal was comp'd , which is fine, but that was not the objective. Was really hoping for a lovely, quality dinner, and it was disappointing on most counts. I think the allure of the "local" restaurant has been lost with the corporate ownership.

Our waiter Mark Y was excellent. We were celebrating a 70th birthday and Mark made it very special. Food was great and superior service.

Food was great as always and so was the service. We always go to St. Elmo when in Indianapolis.

Opentable Diner

First time - iconic, fabulous, superb - and the staff went beyond expectations to make it a great experience.

If you are in Indianapolis you must make a stop at St. Elmo. The food and service were excellent. The server went through the gluten free options with me. The environment was very welcoming. We look forward to stopping by again during our next trip to Indianapolis!

Me and my best friend went there for dinner which was my first time going there. Obviously we had our car Valeted due to convenience and my friend wanting to use the Valet service. This establishment is full of liars and excuses. The Valet service team stole her sunglasses out of her car with the manager being extremely nasty to her when calling about the missing item mind you these weren’t cheap sunglasses. Stating it was her fault she left them in the car and they don’t hold their parking staff responsible for theft his exact words. I will never be going back due to the fact they support and back up thieves! Overpriced liars and have no compassion what so ever for their customers! I just hope whoever stole her glasses feels better about themselves because their work place seems to support and encourage their staff stealing from customers who paid and tipped to park their car!!!!! 10/10 don’t recommend!!!!

I went to St Elmo’s for the first time on Sunday June 1st 2025. We were celebrating my birthday. As a native Hoosier I was excited to try the famous restaurant that has so much history in the city. We made reservations at 4:00 pm and arrived on time. When making the reservation it asked if we were celebrating any special occasion, so I selected it was for a birthday celebration. When we arrived the hostess said happy birthday as she seen it on our reservation. We were seated and our server named “Mike” came and asked us what we would like to drink. And from there the experience went down hill. He was extremely rude, and brash when speaking to us. He asked if we have been there before and we both told him no this was our first time. His response was “well it’s a pretty simple menu” he seems to be really annoyed with us. He was not very quick to refill drinks. The food was ok just the server was not. He also never mentioned the birthday we were celebrating. Just an overall crummy experience. Not sure if I will go back. At the end my husband tipped his really well so even though his service was poor we felt like we should tip him. Mike at St Elmo’s you need to do better or find a new job.

Great spot with all the perfect dishes to go with it. Prime rib was the best I've ever had. As always the shrimp cocktail didn't disappoint. An American jewel.

Excellent service. Cowboy rib eye was cooked to a perfect medium. Famous shrimp cocktail was fire...literally...the spicy cocktail sauce is not for the faint of hearts. Great experience.

Kyle T. Made our visit 10x better. Didn't have to ask for anything because he anticipated our needs. The shrimp was definitely not our cup of tea and was super spicy. But we were warned by Kyle. Drinks were strong but worth the price.

We introduced family to St. Elmos. Told them to go slow on the horseradish sauce for shrimp. They found out why, but scooped up every bit in the bowl after shrimp was gone. Steaks were fabulous. Prime rib not cooked to one's liking. After recooking , it was just okay. But St. Elmos took it off the bill in the end. Great decision to make you want to come back! Our waiter, Parker, was suberb!

We had reservations for my so sons graduation from college. The table was in a quiet room. Our server Jordan was amazing. He was nice, prompt, and his service was excellent. The food was amazing!

I wish I remembered our server's name, but he was the best! Everything tasted phenomenal and came out in a timely manner.

Steak prepared incorrectly twice. Way over done. They did comp the steak but it ruined the vibe.
