We went there for our first time this past weekend, and will likely never return. Poor excuse for service! Servers were not professional in the least bit, my cup sat empty 2 separate occasions for over 5 minutes. Waited 10 minutes for ketchup. My first drink was root beer brought and poured warm into a warm glass. This place has been recommended by several people but man, they didn’t live up to ANY of the hype. Spend your money and time elsewhere. I hope if you go they exceed your expectations because they didn’t come close to even meeting mine. 1/10

Booked our daughter's wedding reception here. A big reason everyone had such a good time was just The Rathskeller being the Rathskeller. They were good to work with from planning to set up to the end of the event and never failed the have a welcoming vibe. Recommend them without reservation.

Quaint restaurant with German food. We, Germans, had the sauerbraten and the schnitzel. The sauerbraten was a bit dry, unfortunately the schnitzel didn't do anything. Both dishes are probably just a bit adapted to American taste, our taste as Germans expected something different.

Very nice architectural experience. This was a first time visit for me and I loved the luxurious richness of this historical building. I saw 2 incredible shows, Mowtown and Dreamgirls and the seating arrangement was great to see the stage, the acoustics were great. We didn't eat here, so I can't say how the food is, but I will be back in November for another show and look forward to it. We parked close, on the street, but both nights were on Sunday so no pay parking. This is just a really nice historical building with a modern touch.

a few do's and dont's for this place on a tues eve: DON'T SHOW UP within an hour of closing and politely ask if you can sit outside. DON'T expect good Saurbraten. DON'T expect a polite waiter (who just wanted to get OUT of there!) Apple Strudel ? don't EVEN bother -- This place MIGHT be ok for those who have not had the real deal -- but I will tell you I will NEVER waste my money here again.

Oh my gosh! I don't even know where to begin. We arrived a little after opening and was met by an amazing woman that welcomed us in and gave us some time to marvel at restaurant before seating us. Turns out she was our waitress, Jennifer. Jennifer gave recommendations, brought amazing food (try the bread pudding), and welcomed us back for live music that afternoon. We actually returned for the music and the outdoor venue and vibes were awesome. Jennifer was working the Bar Too and made sure we were well taken care of. If you're in the area, go check this place out. Wonderful food, beer, atmosphere, & people!! We'll be back for sure next time we're in town!!

I have been here for dinner several times (mostly family birthdays) but I decided to drop by for lunch today. Wow, I am glad I did. The Rathskeller is such a bargain for lunch. I had the Bavarian plate. It came with two kinds of wurst, German potato salad, sauerkraut, and a huge pretzel with hot mustard dipping sauces. In a world where McDonalds is $10-11 for a "value meal" getting a meal like this for $14.95 was a great value. The service was excellent, friendly, and fast. I will be back for lunch again for sure!

Parking: I parked about a block away at New Jersey and North Streets. Parking was only $2 for the entire lunch and I still had about 30 mins left.

The hot wurst platte appetizer was phenomenal! Highly recommend. Our server was so sweet, and she was very helpful when deciding on menu items as it was our first time visiting. Wish we lived closer so we could visit all the time. We we will definitely be back the next time we are in town.

I ate here for the first time while attending a company dinner event. We had a menu of pre-selected items (beef, pork, chicken and 2 pasta dishes). The room we were in was very dimly lit, and located across from the kitchen entrance so we heard all the noise from the kitchen staff. The food was mediocre in my opinion. I got the Linguine with sun dried tomatoes. I found it to be rather bland and dry - it needed more sauce of some sort. Overall the experience was alright. I'm not too sure I would put this restaurant high on my lists of recommendations.

This review particularly covers using the Rathskeller as a wedding venue. I cannot recommend using this establishment for your wedding venue. I will try and summarize everything in bullet-point fashion:

1. The ceremony hall is on the main floor. Also on the main floor, is a coffee shop, so you have patrons mixing in frequently while you are trying to coordinate everything. We had to ask patrons to leave the ceremony hall several times as there was never an employee stationed to keep it from happening. We also used the grand staircase for photos, which is right in the middle of the seating area for the coffee shop. We all felt like a circus show while everyone just sat and stared at us. People were mostly respectful about staying out of the way, but it certainly took away from the atmosphere and added an unneeded level of stress to the wedding party.

2. During photos, we made our way up to the second floor from the grand staircase to take family photos in hopes to remove ourselves from the bustle of the coffee shop. We immediately got greeted by a very rude and unprofessional female that worked on that floor. She came out yelling loudly about how we needed to leave and that the floor was for private events only. There were no indications of the floor being off limits and there wasn't a soul on the 2nd floor to bother. One would also assume that after spending the money to utilize the Rathskeller for a private event, there might have been some give and take. We didn't give much grief as we all were already stressed out enough and moved on.

3. Prior to anyone from the wedding party showing up, we were promised to get a room at 1pm that everyone could store their stuff in. That time came, but we were never directed to any specific room. I am not sure of the time, but after a phone call was made, we were finally told of a room on the other side of the building that we could utilize.

4. Ceremony - The ceremony turned out nicely. The hall provided plenty of space to accommodate all the guests and decorations. However, patrons were still allowed to access that part of the hallway to come and go as they pleased. Still no sign of an employee to manage this.

5. Once the ceremony was complete, it was time for all the guests to move downstairs to the restaurant area. This created some confusion as there is no direct route to go from the upstairs to the downstairs other than an elevator. However, if you go back outside via the front doors, then turn right, you can go into the front door of the restaurant. Due to the long line starting to build at the elevator in the already packed narrow hallway by the coffee shop, I released myself from wedding party duties and started showing people how to go outside and come back in. Still no sign of any employees to help the guests.

6. Reception - This started to get much better from here once the event moved downstairs. The reception hall was very spacious and complimented our many decorations nicely. Finally, there were ample staff that were able to cater to the guests and their needs. The food was excellent and the staff was very professional and prompt. The bar staff did well managing the line and served drinks in a timely fashion. However, there is only one women's bathroom downstairs, and it was in our reception hall. This meant that all the loud, intoxicated females from the adjoining bar had to come into the reception hall during our event. Many of the wedding guests were complaining of the line to use the bathroom due to the unrelated female patrons constantly coming through. There were several other patrons coming in as well that had no business being there other than to try and get a free drink from the bar or food from the buffet. Towards the end of the night, an employee finally stationed himself at the front door to regulate any patrons from coming in that did not belong.

Conclusion: I was a professional wedding DJ for over 10 years. Just
