The place is a little rough around the edges, in need of some repair, but the place is clean, service good, great food & the atmosphere is old school, the manager was friendly & spent time visiting patrons. Burgers are really good & onion rings were great, fried just right, the whole onion did not come out in the first bite!! They aren't open late, last orders taken at 3:15pm (I think). That was the first time in many years we have closed a bar!!

Waited a very long time come here not only for the burger, but also for the history. If you’ve never been, I recommend doing that. As for the burger, I had the Giant Double. The patties were perfect with excellent crust, lacy crisp edges, and still juicy. I’ve read negative things about the service, but out of the 5 times I have I’ve gotten very friendly and prompt service. If you’ve never imbibe, don’t pass on the missive, frosty drafts on tap. I 100% recommend this place for the food and the history.

What a gem! I have been meaning to go here for so long. So glad I did and wished I had gone sooner. Down to earth, Nostalgic local Diner / Bar. Go here, but dont forget to bring Cash. Cash Only.

I come to IND every now and then for work and this place has been on my list for a while because I love a good burger, and a good independently owned hole in the wall.

Let me tell you, this place is the gem of all gems and I hope the people in this city keep it alive. The burger was fantastic, and the room is just dripping with cultural history and personality. Good to see a place like this kicking in 2025.

The Workingman's Friend is legendary in Indy. I really enjoyed my visit there, the food was great, real laid back vibe but don't forget to bring cash, no plastic accepted there. Did not disappoint!

I read that they have the best burger in Indy. I wouldn't say that, but they do make a very good one. We received excellent service on three Saturday lunch when we visited. The place is a 21 and over bar, so you can't bring the kids. It's also cash only with no ATM inside.
