El Mexicano Restaurant

This is the BEST Mexican restaurant in the region! Generous portions, fair prices and authentic choices that cater to a wide array of palates. Have gone here for several years now and never disappointed. The staff is always friendly and expeditious. Recently had a carne asada torta and tried their pozole rojo. The torta was massive and properly assembled. The steak was perfectly seasoned and grilled as always. Only regret not having gotten a lengua torta. Found out after ordering they recently put lengua back in rotation. The pozole was rich, flavorful and full of large cuts of tender pork. Enough for at least two meals worth. If you’ve never been, what are you waiting for?? Give this place a try

Small place, but is my favorite place to go out to eat. The food has always been great, drinks are huge and I don't need a refill. I do recommend checking this place out.

Had a wonderful experience with the staff and the food was fantastic!!! Had the ponchos chicken with rice and beans and pack of tortillas. The cream cheese sauce and mushrooms were so flavorful and I ate myself to being miserable as I started with quest and guacamole with bacon! The gauc was so good with a healthy blend of cilantro, lime, garlic and avocado blended with no ingredient over powering another... the quest was white and a lighter cheese which paired perfectly with the chips. The meal was amazing and my wife enjoyed her taco salad. The coke was super fizzy from carbonation which made me happy and the tea was sweet like a louisiana sweet tea. 10/10!!!!!

I'm gonna have to come back ASAP and get pictures. This place was STELLAR. I think wholeheartedly this was the BEST salsa I have ever had in my entire life, and I don't say that lightly. The food was out quick and it was hot and fresh. Friendly service all around, great and fair prices with good portions. I will be back. My new favorite Mexican restaurant in all of Kentuckiana :)

The food was stellar! A welcome change to other local Mexican restaurants in the area. They have things on the menu that other places do not offer. The patio was a great ambience. We sat out there even during a thunderstorm and it was a wonderful experience. The staff was also amazing.

Our neighbor told us about El Mexicano restaurant, he highly suggested it.
It is the best Mexican restaurant, hands down, not only in Jeffersonville, but of any I tried in Southern Indiana and Louisville. We all left stuffed! Delicious! Their salsa is the best. Everything was very good.
My wife had Arroz Texano, I had the Fajitas Texana with steak, chicken, shrimp. Oh man, it was really good!
Our server was so courteous. The atmosphere was friendly. Great place, very well organized, well run. Our # 1 Mexican restaurant!

Absolutely... Wow!

Having enjoyed Hispanic food from coast to coast and in both Mexico and the United states, the tacos el pastor that I had at El Mexicano are unquestionably the best I've ever eaten, by an order of magnitude. I personally chose the flour tortilla instead of the corn, but any way you would have it prepared, it was absolutely was outstanding. Another unusual surprise was the incredible refried beans. I've never felt the occasion to remark about beans in any review I've ever done, because... they're beans. Basically the same everywhere you go. EL Mexicano however, is absolutely a step above. The next time I go, I'll skip the Mexican rice which was also good but not nearly as extraordinary as the beans and enjoy that on chips. Their homemade salsa was also excellent.
I love the family feel of the staff here. They seem close & work well together.
Trust me, you will be in mex-tacy!

Having made another of MANY trips here for this incredible restaurant, I am again blown away at the amazing food, and the over-the-top service from the welcoming and friendly staff.

We had the unfortunate experience of being in the restaurant when a lying bully-type guy tried to have his way instead of respecting these wonderfully welcoming people and the health laws they have no control over. When the awful man, and the woman with him left in a huff after their inexcusable rudeness & child-who-didn't-get-their-way behavior, the entire restaurant full of customers cheered. The staff was respectful, but firm & entirely in the right. The difficult situation could not have been handled better by the amazing staff of this restaurant.
