It’s pretty bad when a 4-year-old can pick up on body language and notice when someone is being rude. Nolan and I went to the store and then went through Fazoli’s for some breadsticks around 7:45pm on 1/09/26. When I got to the window, I said hi to the worker (a younger guy) and told him I had a pickup order. He never said a word and just shut the window.
When he came back, he handed me the bag. I told him “thank you, have a good night,” and he still said nothing—just closed the window again and started texting on his phone. Nolan asked, “Why is he not talking, Mama?” So I had to explain to him that some people are just like that and choose not to talk. He wanted to know why, so we ended up having a whole conversation about rudeness versus kindness.
We went to the gas station after that, and the worker there actually spoke to us. Nolan said, “He’s nice, isn’t he? Because he’s talking and said have a good night.” I told him yes, he was very nice. Then Nolan said, “Yeah, he’s nice, but the breadstick man wasn’t as nice. He was quiet.”
Out of the mouths of babes—this younger generation needs to do better. A 4-year-old just called you out on your behavior.
