The food is always great...we have been to Carmela's several times, but we've never seen such a busy crowd, so we were especially glad we made reservations. The staff clearly showed sensitivity to us as we were celebrating a unique and very special occasion. Despite the full and perhaps overflowing crowd, we were served well and without delay. Thank you all!!!
Always a delight to eat at Carmela's. My Irish Canadian cousin and his wife came in for the Notre Dame game and I knew they would love Carmela's. From the minute you walk in the atmosphere feels like Italy, the wait staff is friendly and the meal was sumptuous. If only we had room for dessert! Delizioso
We enjoyed Carmela's for our 23rd anniversary. They were very excited to have us from the hostess to our server. Would absolutely suggest this dining experience for special occasions or just a phenomenal meal.
Went with a large group and food and service were both amazing. The place was packed, highly recommend reservations! The food was hot and fresh, cocktails were top notch. All of their staff were extremely knowledgeable, friendly and professional. We will definitely return!
Carmela's at Macri's is an excellent venue. The food selection is reasonably diverse, their pricing is moderate. Their service is excellent, and their food is delicious. I would totally recommend them to you and your family and friends.
The burrata appetizer and the chicken Involtini entrée were both outstanding. The Bolognese pasta with meatballs was not good. Just tasted like tomato sauce. Did not detect any meat in the sauce at all! The biggest downside was we were sitting at a table by the windows and the tables are so close together that our chairs and elbows kept bumping into the tables/patrons next to us. Plus, they were so close together that you felt like you couldn't have a conversation and could hear everything the other tables were saying clearly. Next time I would ask to be placed at a table in the middle of the dining room.
Awesome cocktails. Burrata and house made mozzarella were awesome starters with crostini and fresh bread which we all loved. The chicken Marsala was super tender and delicious and the sweet corn crab risotto on special was out of this world. Italian torte for dessert topped it all off and was amazing. We will definitely return to this south bend gem!!
We visited Carmella's to celebrate my parents' anniversary. We had a delicious meal. Everything was fresh and yummy. The service was excellent. If you want authentic Italian, this is a great spot. It is on the pricey side, but great for a special occasion. Save room for dessert!

We had veal piccata, pollo involtini, ravioli, and chicken Marsala - all wonderful. Fried mozzarella was a hit but the biggest hit was the calamari. I Can't forget the desserts! We tried everything except the tiramisu but they were all so tasty, from gelato to chocolate bomb. Our server was attentive, sweet and patient with us. We had a really great night out and will be back
Very disappointed on our recent 2nd visit. Ww asked for Tito and lemonade and git absolute but they tried to pass it off as Titos. They appetizer burrata you bit into the bread and it dissinagrated it was so old and hard. The burrito was not new it was tough and hard to cut. The chicken in the chicken marasala was so thin We could of cut it with our fork. The manicotti was wonderful and so was the tortellini. What a difference from our first visit.. Will not travel there to eat again.
Not a restaurant I will return to but I would tell people to go and get their own experience, maybe theirs will be better. Waitress was nice , she said she would bring more bread and didn't until I asked again, and then when we finished our meal no request if we wanted dessert, don't assume,, she just brought the check. The biggest problem is the advertising. Website reads house salad included , nope had to pay $2.95 and the meal was $2.00 higher, she tells us they changed that when people didn't eat it so they started charging. Prices listed in website are all lower than menu pricing and reads house salad included, consumers shop ahead to see what they are expecting , not bait and switch. I asked her about this and she said yes, they know for the last year and others have also called it out. Not the point of increases we know just be honest. Then the 3% surcharge and not asking if we want to pay cash or card, let me decide how I want to spend my money don't assume. You raised the prices more than 3% so handle it. I was asked how would you rate everything and I told her. Pasta not hot luke warm at best, chicken parmigiana was not completely seasoned only a piece had sauce. My wife enjoyed her meal but was hard to eat, should of asked for a spoon to twirl pasta. $69 later and no cocktails, that also included $12 tip so I didn't short tip the waitress due to ownership issues and the place was not real busy at 5pm when we arrived, they open at 5pm. Always room for improvement, so good luck with being proactive to want to get return customers, we all have choices, hostess was extremely friendly and kind. So it is the little things that make the difference, sorry to be picky but this is the platform of honesty you have given us.
We were in town for a soccer match and stumbled across this on open table. Turned out to be absolutely fantastic. Service and atmosphere were top notch and the food was even better. My wife had the gnocchi which was great, my kid had buttered noodles which were, well, noodles with butter. The real highlight was the lake perch served with risotto and fresh green beans-a real 5 star dish. We also hated the fried mozzarella which was the best I've ever had served with a stellar marinara sauce. If we're ever back in South Bend we'll definitely return. It's also attached to an Italian bakery so don't sleep on the desserts if you have room.
The food is truly authentic Italian. The service was impeccable and what a great ambience. This will be on our list of monthly go to's. Highly recommend Carmela‘s at Macri's
