Like most places, this restaurant is understaffed with long waits, which leads to mediocre service. It's a shame, because the food is usually very good.
While my husband had walleye his friend ocean perch and they loved it! I ordered jumbo shrimp and returned it to the kitchen. It was hard, chewy not fit to eat! However, recommend they're fries! By bottled water only here!! I had a small dinner salad and it was fine.
Baum's Bridge Inn is an institution in Northwest Indiana with its down-to-earth, rustic, no-frills vibe. It's everything you'd expect with a bar in the Midwest in all the best ways. The staff are very friendly and attentive, the food is good, and it's a very spacious bar. Baum's also has an assortment of very talented musicians playing at their bar every week.
I took my 80 year old mother in Baums last night because she has been wanting to try their food since we moved to Knox in 2021, unfortunately we had one drink and had to leave. Amy, the bartender, was horribly rude to my mom and myself. First she ignored us, while she wasn't busy and was bleach spraying the bar, never said hello, never even looked at us when we sat down. She just kept spraying and cleaning, the area that was spraying was the spot right next to our 2 chairs. After she was done with that she walked to the other end of the bar for a bit, checked on the 6 people that were already there, and then after a few minutes finally decided she couldn't blow us off any longer. She came back and asked what we wanted to drink, pretty simple you would think, but not with this woman. My mom told her what she wanted and she didn't know what it was and she said, a vodka what??? My mom said a vodka gimlet, its roses lime juice mixed with vodka, Amy said, ya, I know what roses lime juice is. Then she looked at me and said, and you? I said I'll have a coke please.........she says, a what? I said a Coca Cola PLEASE. We have never even seen this woman in our life, but she decided she didn't like us and we had only been there at that point for about 6 minutes. She was rude, off-putting, absolutely terrible personality for a bartender. I've worked in the service industry for decades, people loved me. You have to be welcoming and nice, its part of the job. The other woman that was there, her hair was in a bun, she was tall and a pretty lady, she was very nice to us and asked how we were doing but unfortunately she wasn't the one tending to us. Put that nasty Amy in the back slinging cases of booze, she doesn't belong in the public. I hope you address her, she could tank your business with that nasty attitude. So much for the food, we left after one drink. For some reason, we were not welcome. Also, my husband and I kayak alot too so we planned on making this a pit stop for our 12 people group kayaking trips. A shame. We tip big always, like over tip cuz I know how hard you have to work in servicing customers. My advice, vet your help better maybe. Has this woman dealt with the public in past jobs?? My mom asked me when we left, what did we do wrong? My mom is so sweet, and like I said she is 80 years old and doesn't always feel great so our trips out together are few and far between. My family will never be back. You can thank Amy for that.

I do not know why this place was not filled on a Friday night. Food was SO good. Simple salad with crisp iceberg, green peppers, and italian dressing was a terrific starter. Lake perch was $3 more than AYCE ocean perch, but I could not have eaten more than I was served and it was delicious! Baked potato with butter and sour cream. Under $20. Drinks were good, too. No chardonnay, but Riesling was good. Charming, homey atmosphere. But Great Food and service! My only suggestion is the carpeting in the dining room and the ladies’ restroom needs a good cleaning. (I might not have mentioned I am a clean freak😊)

We waited an hour and 15 minutes for our food last Thursday night. Our pizza came out cold, steak sandwiches were over cooked. Place wasn’t too busy and had good reviews, bummer we didn’t have a good experience.
