Such a fun place, especially if you are a board and card game fan! John and Alisha (the owners) personally made sure everyone had fun, so I'd definitely recommend Thursday nights as those are the "social nights" when they are there to explain, suggest, or play games with you.The cost to play is negligible, especially for students at only $3. The food is a bit pricey, (i.e. $6 for 6 avocado fries,) but I'm not sure they're really out of line with other downtown restaurants.The French onion soup had a great portion size that was yummy and had plenty of cheese, and the BBQ Dragon pizza was absolutely wonderful. If they don't use a brick oven, their pizza at least certainly tastes like it! The Reuben was decent, I would likely try another item on the menu next time though. The avocado fries were good but expensive.Overall, I had a great experience and am super happy we have this gem in greater Lafayette!!EDIT: One more thing I forgot, beware the elder dragon wings! My friend who claims a high spice tolerance could not eat them! They are only for the true fire breathers ?. (When they say hot, they mean it!)

This is a cool place with nice staff. They tried their best and I respect that. I will give a more polished review about thefood in my next visit. But it is a very safe and welcoming place and it is quiet enjoyable if you bring your friends.I have not experienced a rpg board games so I couldn't play some but for more experienced people it is a joyful place. For others it is still a very friendly environment with games to enjoy.

The real GameStop, easy to spend hours here with friends and enjoy the massive selection of board games! This is the downtown spot for casual enjoyment and having a great time. Us eight people tried out Merlin's Beard, me for the first time surprisingly having lived here for over a decade, finding a pleasant peasant styled slightly fantasy inspired pub coaxing out all inner dragons, dukes, and dames, cannot believe it took me so long to try out! There is a game for every size and shape. A menu to match pushing hard on the themes, elixers, potions, and drafts. They sized up some healing potions which were fun to mix along with a desired spirit. The tap options showed off some local hits, quick to feast on a peanut butter stout which is always a smash for me. My bowl of chili is exceedingly beyond reproach, harty, strong wholesome, and gameful, might have wished for an actual bowl size not the small tureen I was presented with. Alas noticed the sandwiches were similarly restrained, perhaps there's other provinder providing proper filling. We were treated great by the staff throughout, noticed the others had a gay time playing trivia too! Can highly recommend Merlin's Beard and glad my downtown features a worthy stop.

OMG I've never been to a restaurant like this before! It's all about a relaxing place (not noisy at all) to go play boards games (hundreds to select from) (I actually thought they were books) and delicious food and drinks. I'm a restaurant hooper (where there's good and trendy food) and let me tell you I have never had jalapeños wrapped in bacon the way they prepared them. They were so large they looked like fried flakey and crunchy chicken wing flats. I thought the bacon was prosciutto flavourful and cooked to prefection.The drinks with thier unique name were different from anything I've ever had. YUMMY

As far as games, I would recommend this place but avoid the food at all cost and eat elsewhere. Horrible. Anything breaded is completely unseasoned and disgusting. Chicken tenders and avocado are the worst with zero flavor. French onion soup is the worst I have had and would avoid it. Really nothing good to say about this place other than game selection. If games are your only interest, it would be a great place for an evening but 100 %, eat elsewhere.

They have so so many board games! I loved their cheese pizza! My first playing Qatan here and oh boy, their Qatan league( which happens every Tuesday) board is amazing! A fun place to hangout if you wanna chill for some board games and good pizza.

Can't say how any food was here at the moment. When we arrived the business was closed due to a busted water heater. So we didn't get to eat here. I guess It just happened because the website was not updated. We don't live that far from this location so we were a little disappointed but things happen maybe someday we'll try it. We like giving the little guy's a try they usually make the best foods and at really good prices. They make food like we do at home pretty much with the smaller business is it seems like
Staff was Super Friendly! The owner was a super cool lady! The food was fantastic. (Highly recommend the wings and jalapeños poppers). The board game selection was plentiful and well maintained. Would totally recommend this to people as a must stop whether you are a local or out of towner!

Merlin's Beard has a terrific atmosphere where you just go and play games. The staff have always been incredibly friendly. Their game selection is wonderful and the food is great. Honestly, it is my favorite place in the Lafayette area.

What a great place for our grandsons 8th birthday party. Good grub and hundreds of board games & more all A.L.L ages..... the parents were playing board games their kids, 5-6 years old was playing games, wide open spaces, & rooms with curtains for more private gaming...

I LOVE THIS PLACE!! I remember I have gone here for two birthdays... one was at the old location, and one was in the reservation room at the newer location. The food and drinks are awesome, and the service is great.I recently volunteered here, I loved it. I think the feel and vibe of Merlins is incredible, and the work environment is very welcoming. I hope I can be part of the crew someday!
