I would like to clear up some information from other reviews: as of this review, there was no mandatory gratuity or fee on our bill, and the service was polite. We did not encounter any discourteous staff during our visit, so they may no longer work there or they work at a different time of the day.
We ordered black pepper beef short ribs and mapo tofu, and both dishes were extremely delicious. The mapo tofu was authentic: just great sauce and silken tofu, and you could clearly taste the Sichuan douban. The beef dish had a great peppery sauce that was not overpowering, and also had bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, sliced garlic, and a generous amount of bamboo shoots. Both dishes were a generous portion for their prices.
We are new in the area coming from places with rock solid Chinese cuisine and Sichuan House was excellent. We both enjoyed the food a great deal. Highly recommended! Explore their menu.

This would be such a convenient place for me since I only live a block away, but it’s not worth the price. The portions are remarkably small and flavor was lacking.

We gave Sichuan House a try on Christmas Day this year.
I really try to avoid leaving bad reviews, due mainly to all the factors I might not be aware of that might lead to occasional bad service or food quality, but my reason for this review appears institutional.
While my General Tso's chicken tasted ok (sauce was thin, which led to a not very strong taste), the absolute main reason for my poor rating was the portion size for the price. They offer a "regular" size portion of General Tso's Chicken (pictured, and that is a single layer of food) for $13.95, which is about the right price for a regular portion most places in town. The problem is the portion size. This portion is probably still smaller than most "lunch" portions at places like En Lai and Peking. I am accustomed to getting more than twice as much food for the price and consequently didn't get enough to eat.
My wife and 5 year-old shared the $13.95 Sweet and Sour Chicken and it wasn't enough food for them either, and they don't eat much.
VERY disappointed that >$30 left all 3 of us still hungry.😡

Ordered egg drop soup, Beijing noodles, and braised beef noodles. Portions were huge and the food was DELICIOUS! Best Chinese food I have had in the Lafayette area!

Pricey place. Ordered dumplings, beef noodles, boiled style beef, and a plate of vegetables for two people. The total price was about 50, not including additional fee adding another 15 to the bill. Service was not great, the waiter/waitress never showed up unless ordering food and serving food. This definitely does not earn the additional charge. What’s ever funnier, the waiter said that this is already cheaper than going to a steakhouse.
