If you are into Hoosier Dive Bars, you gotta stop by this joint. Totally authentic from the outdated beer signs to the authentic locals getting their beer on. I experienced a real "smash burger", hand formed and sizzled on the open flat-top grill just behind the bar. Nice bun, generous tomato and lettuce....delicious! The fries were crispy and the beer was cold. My wife enjoyed the smaller version of the burger and was equally pleased with the outcome. We'll be back on our return to Madison.

After waiting for an hour and a half for my food at Miller's Tavern in North Vernon I went to Shipleys and had my food in just over 15 minutes and the wait staff kept my drink full.

It seems if your a local it is a great place but if you not there is big attitude when our food was brought to us it was just thrown onto the table. People told us this was the place to come and we must try the hamburger. Disappointing! Never was asked how we wanted the burger cooked. Over cooked Burt on the bottom fries were bland. I’ve had better from the gas station. Atmosphere was buzzing with conversations and laughter from everyone. That was nice and the food and staff was very poor. Hope they do better.

This a triple D minus Guy and that's a good thing. Just a damn tasty burger with a small town feel (make sure you ask for Shipley sauce). Holly is an absolute trooper killing it on the grill, fryer and the bar - real triple threat.

Awesome place to dine. We came to Madison for the day and ate lunch here. Fantastic customer service and food. I ordered their breaded fish sandwich. Absolutely delicious. Their onion rings were crispy and not greasy. We are definitely returning the next time we are in town.

We were really disappointed with our visit. They seemed very short-staffed, so service was extremely slow. It took a long time to get our food, and when it finally came, the burgers were dry and just average. I ordered a drink from the bar that never came, and eventually I just gave up on it. Overall, it was a frustrating experience, and we’ll probably not be back.
