My husband and I always wanted to visit here and finally got the chance a couple weeks ago. Amazing! The staff was so kind and knowledgeable and wasn't annoyed with all of our questions about the home and history. Lunch was super good. We sat in the sun room and for a moment, you feel like you're back in time . Its an awesome feeling and atmosphere. It's great for lunch with friends or lunch date with your ❤️ or to just stop in and tour the beautiful home. We will be back very soon and can't wait to see everybody again And try something different on the menu!
The historic Samuel Plato house is nicely restored and efforts are being made to keep it in good condition. Work was ongoing to repair the columns on the front facade. The restaurant has several dining rooms that offer intimate, small group or public dining. The atmosphere is pleasant and conversation is easily heard. The menu has a couple of vegetarian/vegan salads. My Harvest Spinach Salad with candied pecans and raspberry vinaigrette was okay, but unremarkable. I would happily go there again if that is where my friends wanted to lunch.
I went for lunch and was greeted right away. The food was great, service was friendly and the atmosphere is beautiful!
Great food, great service
Our Condominium Community Had Lunch Reservations For 11 Senior Ladies Today And We Drove From An Hour Away Only To Find The Menu Consist Of $10 Sandwiches That Did Not Include Any Sides. Those Were Available Separately For An Additional Cost. We Finally Got Our Order Taken And Waited 30 Minutes For Our Food To Start To Stagger Out Over The Next Hour And A Half. The First Two Meals Were Served Then Another 20 Minutes Went By Before Any Other Orders Were Served. There Was Another 15 Minutes That Went By Before Two Of The Last Four Orders Were Served Of Which One Was Served Without The Ordered Side Which She Did Not Get Until Everyone Else Had Finished Eating Including The Last Two Orders To Be Served. One Of Which Received The Same Side 20 Minutes After They Had Received Their Sandwich But It Was Still Before This Lady That Had Already Been Waiting For Her Side And The Staff Was Made Aware Several Times As We Watched Them Serve Order After Order Of The Same Side That The Lady With Us Had Ordered To Another Group That Had Gotten To The Restaurant Long After Us. The Server Was Very Hateful, Rude And Unapologetic As She Was Closing Out Everyone’s Checks And As The One Guest Was Just Starting To Eat Her Side That She Had Finally Received 1 Hour And 45 Minutes Later And Whom Did Not Deserve To Be Yelled At And Called Rude For Speaking Up About Having Yet To Receive Her Side And Refusing To Argue With The Server. The Building Is Historical And It’s Too Bad The Restaurant Leaves Too Much To Be Desired As The Food Was Very Bland And Certainly Not Worth The Cost And The Service Well It Speaks For Itself As I Previously Described Above About Our Experience Today. I Would Not Recommend This Place For Food To Anyone. I Know I Won’t Be Back And After What I Witnessed/Experienced Today I Wouldn’t Be At All Surprised If The Restaurant Part Of This Historic Building Didn’t Close Down In The Not So Distant Future
Had no go containers
I love talking to the spirits in the house she and the kids are nice.
Today I had a good lunch at the Hostess House. The service was quick. The food was good. I love the aesthetically vintage look of the Hostess House. It’s a historical building in Marion built in the early 1900’s by an African American architect named Samuel Plato. I’ll definitely be back!
We came in to eat with a family of 7 and were treated very poorly by an older lady with whiteish hair from the minute we walked in. She sat us, but we could tell we weren’t welcome. If we had been dressed in our Sunday best instead of out regular day clothes it would have been a different story. She didn’t want our business at all. We were seated then told we wouldn’t have our order taken for at least 20-30 minutes. Never judge a book by its cover!! We won’t ever be back.
Such a special place! Myself and my other two Sisters took ballet and we have given and/or attended wedding receptions and the celebration of life as well! The Hostess House..near and dear to my heart. Definitely the definition of Hostess...the Staff is always wonderful!!

Lovely place and good food
We went for a very nice Mother's Day buffet. Lots of people, good food, friendly service provided by staff and volunteers. We love the Hostess House!
The lunch menu is very typical but made exceptionally well with a not so typical taste. I was pleasantly surprised. It hasn’t been very busy both times I went around 1pm, so that was nice.
Love the atmosphere, ambiance, and staff. My favorite food for lunch is a burger. Shawn can grill an awesome, juicy, very tasty burger. Chicken salad is good, and there is a poppy seed cake with Cream Cheese filling that's to die for. Yum! Check out the whole house and shopping upstairs. Very pretty.
No leftover for the payers.... my only concern.
