Long time favorite! We dine here as often as possible. The owner and the staff are amazing. Sit outside on the patio, watch sports in the bar, or eat in the dining room. Food and Drinks are always delicious! The private room is a great place for a party or meeting. LOVE this place!

Just picked up a order from here. Steak tacos are horrible can't even eat them. The beans taste like they are spoiled. The chicken tacos are not chicken. We can't even tell what kind of meat it is. Yeah don't eat here.

This pepes is more of a bar scene than a restaurant these days. If you like that, you'll make some friends, but I was there for the food, and for the first time in decades. Very different place. My food was good, that of my friend was not, and also not what he ordered. The price was good too. If you're looking for a real pepes experience, try a different one.

Worst place to go. The host can barely talk and walk. Told them chicken tacos on corn with onion and lime as well as cheeseburger mean with queso on fries. They couldn’t do the queso on fries because they didn’t know how to price it so I said just give me a side of queso. Get there pay for my order after the host took forever to give it to me after giving them an extra 10 minutes from the 20 minutes they told me. Looked at my food and I had a bowl of burnt nacho cheese with no queso, my taco was flour tortilla with no toppings, my rice was burnt. The burger was made of garlic bread for the buns as well as under cooked. I WILL NEVER GO BACK THERE AND YOU SHOULDT EITHER. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!!!

First off the hours of service is a LIE THESE PROPLE OPEN WHEN THEY WANT, finally caught them open late afternoon after trying to come three days in a row, and walked in to some dark dungeon, dusty and smelled old, had to wait to be seated some very very elderly lady barely making it to the front door began walking towards the front had to be 90 I felt so bad for her, but what I could see was this is basically the wine head spot, the entire bar was fool and it was only 11am nobody had food and how it smelled and look they didn’t even give me a chance to order, this basically is a hole in the wall night scene instead of an actually PePes restaurant and bar, please don’t waist your time!
Beware, future patrons...
Two nights ago, we ordered take out from Pepe's on 61st Avenue in Merrillville. I wish negative stars were an option. The food was absolutely horrendous. The taste was off, as if we were sold expired/tainted merchandise. We were unable to eat the food, and tossed it in the trash. Never again!!!
Nice chill place to meet people

If I was able to put 0 stars I would! Come into the restaurant the staff look & says nothing. Eventually asked if we’re taking out or staying. Do you mean if we are “dining” what is staying. Very unprofessional! We answer staying the staff WALK CLEAN OFF no further instructions. We had to ask “do we sit ourselves” who WALKS off on paying customers without informing them of how it’s done! Bartender literally told me when asked for a Miami Vice that she “doesn’t have time for that, she’s running the entire restaurant herself and only 1 blender” that’s ABSURD to tell someone willing to pay their money some mess like that. We’ve been seated now almost 30mins still no chips or salsa. Our drinks were brought in plastic cups. She even made a smart remark about “y’all sat all the way up here” as if we don’t have the right to choose where we sit. This is ridiculous and I will NOT be returning. I’m not even staying to eat, I’m am now leaving. Do better and maybe the place wouldn’t be so dead, literally looks abandoned in here.

If you come here expecting every dish to be a flavor sensation, first realize that this place was one of the few affordable Mexi restaurants in the Merrillville area back when it was on the northeast corner and owned by the Espinozas. It's not the best food and drink but it's cheap and helps out all the struggling families and broke college students, so before you slam it with a 1 star review maybe adjust your standards accordingly. The staff are always friendly and come to check on my table several times per visit and I love the panorama art on the walls, the decor and just the general look of the place. Yes, the food isn't anything to write home about, but if you're on a budget you can't beat a la carte tacos with meat of your choice and a cold drink for less than 12 dollars. Viva la Pepe's!

Terrible location, unlike any other pepes i have visited. I have gone to the pepes in SCHERERVILLE since I was a child. Even on a bad day service might have been slow but staff was apologetic and food was good. At the MERRILLVILLE location the poor bartender was working the entire lounge on a Friday night. We had to ask for chips and salsa which I have never had to do at any other pepes. Salsa was watery and flavorless and the chips were very oily. I got chicken enchiladas and they were ok but everything was a kinda dry and beans did not seem very fresh. Got a strawberry margarita and it was super syrupy. We also got plastic cups with no salt on the rim while others at the bar got proper margaritas? Most people were there for the bar and I guess that's what people go to this location for bc the food is NOT it.

Went there Friday, 6/21/24, for lunch which was a Huge Mistake! I did not care for the chips and the salsa tasted like ketchup! I asked for a Pepsi and the waitress mentioned they have RC. In 2024 they're still serving RC and don't have Pepsi or Coke products! I don't understand! Ordered the taco ? dinner which was Horrible! The beans were gray and the rice tasted as though it was reheated! I did not finish any of it!
The Worst Mexican food I've ever had! I will not go again and will never be back! I don't understand how this place is still open. From the food that Pepe's serves, they will be closed soon! The Worst Mexican food in Northwest Indiana! I've never had Mexican food this bad!
To everyone, don't go to Pepe's and waste your money! The food is Absolutely Terrible!!!!
The food was terrible ordered steak tacos they look like pork with a bunch of Grease immediately got sick after eating them didn't even offer me a refund. Do yourself a favor do not go to this place. Was my mistake for even trying it.
