Delicious authentic Mexican food.
The food here was excellent. You could tell it was fresh and a step above the standard Mexican fare. Service was excellent!

Absolutely loved it. The enchiladas mole' were as good as I've ever had. The sauce rich, savory, and scrumptious. It was our first visit and we had heard about this place from several people. The queso was super good. It's not just microwaved Velveeta or some watery goo like a lot of places pass off. The atmosphere has a cantina feel. The fish tacos were fantastic, and actually loved having fries with them. It's not always about sticking to the rules. This isn't El Nopal, folks. The food is crafted and Israel was a joy to talk to. I love talking food someone who clearly loves to cook. Can't wait to go back and try more! The prices were more than reasonable for the quality and quantity of food. You would spend the same at Yellow Cactus and the food isn't half as good.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in New Albany! Every time I have anyone coming to visit me from out of town, I always bring them here.
I have tried almost every dish and they are all amazing. Of course I have my Favorites.
Check them out you won’t be disappointed.
Finally...authentic Mexican food. Not the TexMex at chain Mexican restaurants. Everything was extremely fresh. Even the rice and beans were so good. The guacamole was excellent. Service awesome. Definitely going back.
Highly recommended! One of the best places if you’re looking for amazing food. The waiter Clair was friendly and the cook he’s awesome came out to see if everything was to our liking and it sure was. Definitely will be back.
Food is genuine Mexican!!

It’s not very often I find a dining experience so enjoyable that I take time to write a review, but Israel’s was an exception. If you don’t want to read a long-ish review, just know that this place is PHENOMENAL!
I had the Cali Fish Tacos and my fiance (pictured) had the wet burrito that could have fed the whole building with leftovers. We also had guacamole which I described as the best I have ever had - I am not exaggerating! I cannot explain how delicious and flavorful my fish tacos were, though! With each bite, I tried (and, unfortunately, failed) to make time slow down just to savor every flavor a little longer. And I just knew that the ingredients were made fresh and with so much LOVE. The icing on the cake was when the owner and chef took the time to check in with us and confirmed that the sauce for the fish tacos was handcrafted by him, confirming my hypothesis. I thought we would have to wait a lot longer because there was only one man in the kitchen and one server, but they really operated as a well-oiled machine. I will definitely be back again to experience more menu items! Highly recommend!
Chorizo is handmade. All menu items are prepared for you by Israel, who traveled throughout Mexico and Central America to collect regional recipes. Everything is fresh, unique and delicious.
The portions are well worth the price.
Claire is a wonderful server, personable and professional.
A small restaurant with Huge taste.
Nothing like it in New Albany.
Shown in the picture are :
Burrito Ahogado Chardonnay (forefront) and Burrito Delicias
The food here is nothing like usual Tex Mex that's found in this area, which for me wasn't a good thing, but clearly some folks really like it, judging by the reviews. To me it was very bland, and instead of using the usual white American cheese that every other Mexican restaurant uses, they use something more along the lines of Velveeta. It's definitely much lower quality than El Nopal.
I will say that the sour cream was delicious, the portions were very large, and Claire was an excellent and delightful server. Plus the to-go container charge was only 10 cents, which is no big deal.
I ordered the Veggie Enchiladas and my partner ordered the Mayan Burrito. Both were excellent in quality, plated beautifully, and HUGE portions! Will absolutely be back. Thank you to Chef Israel for the one of the best dinners in town!
This place lost my money last night, and that’s a shame because there was only one table filled at the time. I had the leftover amount of $12.50 on an expired gift certificate from Dec. (who even has gift certificates that expire?Israel’s does 😳) So, I asked if they would accept it. I would have certainly spent over $50 as I was feeding my family. Waitress said no, so we got our Mexican food from elsewhere last night.
