BRU Burger Bar - South Bend

Wonderful place to get a burger!

The service was excellent; our waitress was attentive and continued to check on my party throughout our visit.

The food was very good. The pretzels are one of my favorites. It's served piping hot with either a rich cheese dip or spicy mustard, hard to choose. I also had the root beer, the beginning burger (added bacon) with onion rings. The only eh was the onion rings today. They seemed alittle harder than normal and cool, but I didn't say anything because I was already getting full. Normally their onion rings are the best along with their homemade ketchup.

Beware though it can get loud depending on the time of day or if it's a ND game / homegame weekend. No fault of anyone there, this is located in the commons so busy busy at times.

Bartenders both with the worst tunnel vision, ignoring me at the bar then takes order like annoyed and no eye contact at all.

Best salads around. Pretty pricey, though.

Vegetarian options: There are a few vegetarian options. A mushroom burger, made of a portobello mushroom. Great salads that you can make vegetarian.

Parking: There is a parking garage right next door. During events you have to use an entrance on the other side. It's near Notre Dame. There are parking spots in front, too. Lots of area businesses in this walking strip.

As a mom of a young child, a date with my husband is rare. It's even more important that we have good food and good service! Let me tell you, I cannot wait to come back! We ordered the Bru burger and the Provencal and split them with an order of fries and house ketchup. I also had a mocktail. (Don't make fun, I don't really drink, I have a kidney transplant ! )Lol Anyways we both absolutely LOVED the provencal. That herbed goat cheese with the mushrooms is soo delicious! However, we liked the bru burger but neither of us liked the tallegio cheese. A little too 'footy' for us. To each their own. Great flavor besides. You can tell they use fresh beef, season it well throughout, perfect proportions and this restaurant KNOWS how to balance flavor. Mocktail was downright addictive and fries and house ketchup were soo good! Probably best experience I've had anywhere in a good, long while. Can't wait to return.

The restaurant is nice and the food is good. Decent selection and good drinks. They were busy and the service was still good. Parking is tough. It's a very busy area on game weekends. We parked on one of the campus lots and walked.

Disappointed. We actually left without being served. This is the third time in 18 months we have gone there and after being seated had no one come to wait on us at all for a prolonged period. The staff passed our table multiple times taking care of other patrons. The restaurant was not busy at all at 5:15 pm. After 20 minutes at our table, we left and went next-door to another restaurant where we received immediate service. The food at the facility has always been good. The service is demonstrating to be consistently poor. I even asked to speak with the manager to let them know about our frustrations, but she did not come out despite me waiting at the front for almost 10 additional minutes. The hostess and front staff simply looked at me and with a smile said "I'm so sorry." Not one to post reviews often but this was disappointing for a Resturant we used to like a lot.

Meh.... Mediocre nachos and burgers, a little overpriced for value. Fries were hard, cold bits of leftover fries. Service was a new server but really not great, no check back.

I had the double bacon burger which was fantastic! My mixed drink was phenomenal ??

I had the Hot Chicken Sandwich and it wasn’t hot enough for me!
Sandwiches are relatively small but the atmosphere is actually nice.

One of the things we like the most about Bru Burger is that they are consistent. They consistently provide good food, a nice atmosphere and friendly, professional staff. It's generally our go to when we want a place we can count on for a nice evening out.
