As an over the road truck driver it’s a struggle to eat good over the road so on that particular evening I wanted to treat myself to a good meal after a long drive. I didn’t know much about the area so i googled restaurants in the area of SouthBend & came across Cool Runnings. As I do at most sittings I order an alcoholic refreshment as I then examined the menu.Amy embraced me the moment I sat at her bar & made me feel very welcome & taken care of. My cocktail of choice that evening was a green tea shot, but as a drink & to my surprise my now favorite bartender Amy did an absolute amazing job at not only making my drink in the correct fashion but making sure I was surly satisfied because man did those drinks have a kick! Due to it I was slumped (in a good way) in Uber ride back to my awaiting truck at truck stop that housed my comfy bed that comforted me to a wonderful nights rest. Can’t say I’d slept as good as I did that evening if it hadn’t been for my delightful meal of Oxtails, rice & pees along with Amy’s specialty drinks. Thank you staff & fellow other customers that contribute to making Cool Runnings a cool vibe because man was it lit that night. I’d give this establishment a 10/10 because bartender/ waitress was attentive, drinks were fairly priced & perfected per my experience, the food was bomb dot com & definitely a vibe check!

The food was good.I think we had a new waitress that really wasn't paying attention to what was going on..That being said when she got her act together she did get the food out to us.My biggest complaint about this place, and I guess it's partially my fault. Is that it is a college place.. Notre Dame.... And there are signs all around telling people about having to pay for their drinks that they order it...And the one sign we missed because the weather was terrible is that the automatically give a 15% gratuity added to the bill. That sign was posted on the door and nowhere else.So I ended up giving a 15% tip to the waitress on the point of sale device.. which ended up being 30%.Really pissed off about that when the credit card came in!!

We went early for dinner and planned to stay for the band. The owner worked the front of the house and was very professional and friendly. The drinks were delicious, as was the food. My husband expected faster service and was a bit displeased in the beginning. I was fine with my wait time for food though. Personally, I don't like to feel rushed and rather enjoy being able to sit, chat and unwind over a cocktail while my dinner is being prepared. After we ate we had another drink while waiting for the show to start and he admitted he was just hangry. The delicious food and laid back atmosphere had melted away his irritability. Then the band played... and it was excellent. I can't remember the last time we had such a fun night out together. When we were finally ready to leave, our server made sure to point out the service fee, saying "just so you know, my tip is already included". I had read complaints in these reviews about the service fee and I really don't see the problem with it. We were very happy with our service over all and tipped extra. We thanked the owner profusely as we left and are already planning our next date night at Cool Runnings!

My husband and I had high hopes and really wanted to love this place. We recently moved to South Bend and have been making our rounds to try each restaurant. My overall rating was a 6/10 based on service, food, and ambience. Heres the breakdown of the rating:Jerk Wings: 8.5/10 - great flavor but temperature was warmOxtail 0 - good flavor, could have been more spicy. main entree and sides were cold. to be $30 it pretty small portion and wasnt served with any rice and not much juice when the menu says oxtail stewSides: Mac n cheese: 3/10 (tasted like box mac n cheese and served cold)0 again cold and tasted like straight from a canRed beans n rice: 7/10 good flavor but coldPlantains: 9/10 amazing just wish they were hot/warm0 - got seated quickly but did not get checked on during meal and waited a long time after eating before having to ask for the check.Ambience: 9/10 - love how it’s decorated, great music even when there isn’t a bandOverall it’s decent. Unfortunately I don’t think we will be back. We got two dinner plates and waters, our total was $61 (with 15% gratuity included)
