I love the decor and art at Fat Bird. What is good on the menu— the mashed potatoes are good. The green beans are good. The bomb cake is random and basic but really good. The chicken is over battered for cast iron pan fried and its too heavy. Fried southern chicken is marinated in whole milk then breaded once then fried to crisp and baked to cook. The sandwiches need one target flavor goal. The mac and cheese is heavy and herb rich and very creamy. Being from the south… there are too many flavors happening in the food for it to be southern. Southern food isn’t just soul food or home cooked food. There is a quaintness that keeps it simple and you feel good because you enjoyed eating with your family or friends. It’s not about gourmet flavors or pushing the envelope on flavors. I don’t believe this is just a Fat Bird issue— this is a South Bend, Indiana issue. There are a handful of independent restaurants in this area opening up and cooking some type of food to appear to be luxury or gourmet regular items but the flavors are pushed to the extreme so it’s over kill. I didn’t have a problem with the service everyone was nice.

Service was like non other. It was amazing. Super kind. They brought us out there Nashville hot chicken. My husband just wanted the sandwich. They brought out sides for us and let us keep the platter and charged us for the sandwich! Also gave my husband a free beer for the "inconvenience." Very friendly and caring staff. The vibe in the place is very laid back and cool. The food was good. Not my favorite place to eat personally but everything we ate had a unique flavor. Would go back to this restaurant solely for the amazing service!

Fat bird is 10/10.. one of my favorite restaurants! The grilled chicken wings are so tender and fall off the bone. Best chicken wings I’ve had. The Mac n cheese is amazing!!! Im not a big pasta person and this is seriously the best Mac n cheese! The grilled carrots are so yummy too. Great service, great food. Highly recommend!!

In town visiting family, we broke away to explore the culinary delights of South Bend. What a gem we found in Fatbird! The tasteful decor coupled with the absolute delicious fare we enjoyed was only surpassed by the customer focus we received in the service. I am already looking forward to my return visit to the area just to try something new at my new favorite spot. I recommend the Nashville chicken (grilled) along with the corn.

Tried Fatbird on a dtsb first Friday. When we got there the wait wasn't too bad. We arrived just in time as they started filling up fast. Very happy with the staff. Food was delish!

Fatbird is SUCH a great restaurant! Weve gone here the last few years for my husbands birthday and we are NEVER disappointed! The food is reasonably priced and absolutely DELICIOUS! The pimento cheese appetizer is our favorite and is incredible. The jambalaya is to die for. The burger and chicken sandwiches are delicious. The Mac and cheese is addicting. All of the food here is outstanding and the staff is super friendly, kind, helpful, and attentive. I absolutely recommend trying Fatbird. You wont regret it!Dietary restrictions: Plenty of road side parkingWheelchair accessibility: Definitely wheelchair accessible.

The restaurant is absolutely beautiful and has a great vibe. The service was also good. However, the food was not. It’s rare that I hate a restaurant’s food, but everything was lacking flavor. Ordered the chips and onion dip as an app, and very disappointed to receive a few handful of potato chips that I can buy at the grocery store. Ordered two chicken sandwiches and there was hardly any sauce, cheese or flavor. I wanted to like the mac & cheese, but again wanted some flavor.
Food was excellent but there isn't alot of "healthier" food options. If you don't need loq carb this place is

This place seems decent enough. Perhaps my experience was abnormal. I ordered the Nashville Hot wings. My food was delivered and no follow up. I probably wouldn't have refused them or asked for a refund, but they were quite the disaster. It was impossible to bite into them without the breading all coming off. This was unfortunate because then I had to look at the soggy chicken skin underneath. Mac and cheese was fine, but I'd avoid these wings like the plague.
