NOT A TAVERN.
Although the dinning room is decorated like a tavern, it does not serve typical tavern food. In fact the menu, is a slimed down version of the La Salle Grill menu. If you are getting the same food, you might was well dine at the La Salle Grill. Our server was lovely and informed us while we were placing our orders that the kitchen would take about 40 minutes to make any entree and that the appetizer would come out before the entrees no matter what we did. So, just keep that in mind.
Overall, I don’t understand the marketing as a separate restaurant, it’s an overflow room for the La Salle Grill.

Overpriced and below average food - they wanted to charge us for a full chicken entree to add chicken to a Caesar salad because of the agreement they have with their sister restaurant.

We’ve been coming to the lasalle bar and grill for 10 years, but only on the weekends when there is live music.
Sadly, there has been a downturn in the decisions of the restaurant.
(1) people go to a bar and grill to listen to music and hang out, not to buy $45 meals. The menu changed several times over the years and unfortunately the upstairs kitchen closed as of today 8/23/2025 and now customers must purchase food from
The lasalle kitchen. People want <$20 meal choices for a bar. Wake up.
(2) the acoustics have always been terrible, mostly due to the lovely industrial and brick environment. However, they need to control the sound output of the bands. Some bands (especially those with drums) are so loud we can’t hear anyone talk or even the severs. I recommend sound meters. Keep in mind, I understand they music can be loud, but the loud volume in this small bricked space can be truly ridiculous. The place is usually not busy, probably because of the noise and food.
We love the environment and the music of solo artists and small bands without drum kits that are of chill volume, and we enjoyed the old regular menu. We don’t mind paying slighter higher prices for the location, but the premium food prices are absurd and people need to know. Beer prices and drink prices remain surprisingly good.
If we go again I’ll update my review. We won’t plan on going for food and will have to plan for an appropriate band for the venue acoustics.
overall a terrible experience. Menu has changed and no longer a tavern and grill where you can get a burger or sandwich. service was terrible and waiter checked on us every 20 min even though there were only 3 tables in the entire place. we had to send our food back as it wasnt cooked. Definitely not a place to go for a burger or after a football game. revise the menu and bring back the tavern style food
Really enjoyable atmosphere, and some good food. The best was the peach bruschetta, which was a seasonal special. The sandwiches are solid, especially ones with chicken, since their grilled chicken is really good. I have a longer and more detailed review on my sub stack called De gustibus.

The service made it, by FAR. Autumn our waitress was AMAZING!! She knocked it out of the park with being an amazing presence at our dinner. 10/10 when you go to Cafe Navarre ask for Autumn!!
Went in for the outstanding cheeseburger. However I was informed they stopped offering cheeseburgers two weeks ago! Bring them back. It's an all American sandwich. If I wanted the menu from downstairs I would go eat downstairs.

This was our third visit here, a hidden gem nestled away in South Bend's LaSalle Building. We were in town for a show and came in for dinner - specifically because they offered gluten-free options; my wife has celiac.. Upon our arrival, we were pleased to see the Whateverly Brothers playing live. Not being in a hurry, our server Dillon offered an extremely friendly and comfortable service. I enjoyed a local stout. my wife had a delicious mixed drink. We had a gouda cheese ball as an appetizer, then split a Caesar salad and a ribeye steak; all outstanding. We're looking forward to visiting again next time we're in town ♥️
We waited 40 minutes for a waiter to come to our table due to lack of staff on a busy Friday night. Management did finally step in which was helpful in getting drinks and food out. The Tavern should not have been accepting reservations. Implementing some sort of service recovery measure was needed to make up for their lack of service.
We've been longtime customers of LKT for years, frequenting Thursday night trivia, and the food has always been pretty hit-or-miss. But this time, I was extremely disappointed by my $17 chicken Caesar salad which was about the size of an average side salad, had maybe half a chicken breast's worth of chicken on it, and was soggy with dressing. Between that, slow service (which I don't blame them for because it was busy with ND graduation and a Morris show and they were obviously understaffed), and a really terrible new trivia MC, I'm not sure if we'll be back.
Food is a bit pricey and sometimes inconsistent, but overall it's a great environment in downtown South Bend.
I have been a patron for many years. However, the restaurant seems to have gone down a bit. The menu, which changes frequently, offered very little when it came to choices. What I and my guests ordered was absolutely horrible. I shared my disappointment with the waitress and she told me that they had let the previous chef go and were still working from his menu, which was going to change in the next week. I certainly hope that's the case as I've always been happy with my previous meals.
