We dined at the New China Buffet in South Bend on 10-15-2023. We like going there on Sunday's because of their "hibachi" selection only available on Sundays. I made a lovely plate of chicken and steak and veggies. I kept checking to see if had been cooked yet. I went up 3 different times and it still wasn't there. However, when you turn in your plate, you pick up a number and when it's cooked, they return it with the number beside it. I finally figured it out. Someone stole my plate of food. The number I used was laying in a basket.....meaning that my order was picked up. Who would steal someone else's food? I guess it must had looked delicious to them and they though it was there's for the taking. Or, they were too lazy to prepare their own plate and just took it upon themselves to steal someone else food. By the time I wasted looking for my original meal and then having to remake a second meal to have it cooked, the other people at the table were completely done eating. I think they need a better system to ensure you only pick up what was yours to begin with. I was so disappointed with this dining experience today.

Food from the buffet was not hot in temperature but warm. Plenty of food and options. Food sauces seem to be slightly bent to the sweet side. I’ll be back to see if it was just an off day for the food temperature. Bathroom was really lacking the day I went but again could have been an off day.

The selection of dishes is not as big as other buffets in the area but what they do have is very good. The coconut chicken, jalapeno chicken, butter potatoes, Mac and cheese, Cajun shrimp, fried donut holes, and garlic toast are very delicious. The wontons are decent but need a bit more cheese in my opinion. The soft serve ice cream they serve is very good. The whole place is kept very clean and it is nicely decorated as well. It's a nice hole in the wall buffet that emphasizes quality over quantity and a great value too.
