I'm visiting my brother in Lafayette - and I did not expect to go to a restaurant that has big city class/ flavor for small city prices.

The atmosphere seems very intentionally created, with the restaurant entrance in the middle, then to the right there is the space with beautiful decorations (from the rocks to the wine bottle display to the lit up pods), and a more high-class, night out feel. You can reserve one of the lit up pods in advance, or they might not be available.

The space to the left (when you walk in) seems to be decorated in a more chill/ casual/ low-key kind of way, and has a bar space in it, if that is what you would prefer. It still has character.

The food is very good, and beautiful. I don't usually love ginger, but the ginger dressing on the salad is delicious. Everything else we ate there was delicious as well.

Sakanaya is a true gem when it comes to sushi. Especially good lunch deals too. My kids love it and we've taken them there for their birthdays. The staff even wrote them Happy Birthday cards and gave them ice cream on the house! I can't say enough good things about the food, the service, and the great staff. Such a terrific place!! Faves: the salad with ginger dressing, the Krannert roll, gyoza.

Kid-friendliness: Kids love sushi as long as you let them get messy (chopsticks ain't easy!) try the simple rolls like a California, or some tamago (egg) nigiri. Kids always go for gyoza dumplings too.

Ecellent food and such a unique dining experience!! we had a wonderful evening. Debthe manager was super friendly and made us feel very welcome!!!

We snagged one of those adorable honeycomb booths, which was fun, though prolly more comfortable if you're on the shorter side tbh. Everything was delicious and we ordered too much, but honestly how can you not when there's so much you have to try. Gotta shout out our server, Jason, who was funny, helpful, attentive, on the spot with refills without us even needing to ask, and all around just a straight up delight. Definitely hit this place up for sushi, Japanese noodles, tsukune (chef's kiss), and some very yummy cocktails.

We traveled from kokomo specifically to dine-in at this restaurant. We were absolutely blown away by the atmosphere, food, and service. We love a good Japanese restaurant and this one exceeded our expectations. Everything was amazing. The treasure island roll was fresh and flavourful. My boyfriend tried the bbq eel. It was an amazing dish. We've never had eel before so that was awesome to experience. Our server was super attentive. Me being an old server thats super important to me. She did amazing. 10/10 recommend!!

While I found the food to be just okay, it's important to note that this restaurant serves the best Japanese cuisine in the greater Lafayette area. Despite my personal taste preferences, the restaurant's ambiance and variety make it a standout option for Japanese food.
