A good place to get some more experimental Japanese food. They offer also traditional fair and more American standard. The price is big big if you can swing it go for th fences younger dawg.

We’ve been wanting to try Chiba for a while based on a coworker recommendation and strong Google reviews. We love sushi and Japanese food, but don’t get up to Westfield often, so this was something we genuinely looked forward to.

I don’t understand the 4.5-star rating.

The restaurant was clean, and both the hostess and our server Matthew were friendly. The fish appeared fresh. Beyond that, the experience fell flat.

Portion size wasn’t an issue, and price alone wasn’t the issue either — we live in Carmel and are used to paying for good food. The problem is what was served didn’t meet even baseline Japanese standards, let alone justify the pricing or reputation.

The rice was the most glaring failure. Sushi lives or dies by rice, and this wasn’t properly prepared sushi rice. It was dry and poorly cooked, which immediately undermines everything it touches.

A small bowl of miso soup was $6. That alone tells you how disconnected the pricing is from the execution. This is Westfield, Indiana — not a major coastal city — and even in excellent Japanese restaurants, miso soup is rarely priced like that.

The ambiance reinforced the disconnect. This is a converted house decorated with New Orleans-style elements, and nothing about the space feels Japanese or intentional. It comes across more like a small-town interpretation of sushi than a restaurant grounded in the cuisine. I can forgive this or even see it as fun/quirky if the food was delicious, but without that, it feels lost.

We ordered the Park Street specialty roll, which was interesting in concept but ultimately not enjoyable or something we would order again.

Overall, this felt like a restaurant confidently serving an approximation of Japanese food to an audience that may not know better. If you’re used to well-executed sushi, this will likely be a disappointment.

Was there on a rainy Thursday happy hour. My waiter was very nice and attentive. Delicious sushi off the happy hour menu. Had the sashimi trio and requested a salmon and avocado hand roll. Hand roll was like small burritos instead of the cone shape. Yummy!

If you are looking for your new favorite Japanese spot then look no further. Chiba was 20/10 in my books. I got the chicken Katsu, & a yam tempura roll- both were incredible. Everything on the plate was fresh and crafted to perfection. The desert today was an apple carmel bread pudding tempura- the cherry on top of a fabulous meal. We left so full and so happy.
Not only was the food sensational but the owner Keith was so kind we loved talking with him!! Make sure to stop in for the best food experience and a good time! Thanks again Keith for the delicious foods and keep doing what you are doing!! We will be back soon.

I have eaten at Chiba multiple times, and it is always a treat.

Tonight, I ordered the vegetable tempura roll, the Parkside roll, the seasonal caramel apple bread pudding, and a seasonal spiced apple drink. I'd intended to take a fair amount home, and while I do have leftovers, the Parkside was so good that I had the entire roll. It has a perfectly balanced kick of spice subsequently tempered by the sweetness of the fruit. The vegetable tempura was as delicious as always, and it keeps well, so I am looking forward to it as an early breakfast. The caramel apple bread pudding was so good that I would highly encourage anyone on the fence to try it while you can! If you like fireballs, you will love the seasonal drink, which has a strong taste of cinnamon which paired well with the hint of apple and was perfect for a cool evening.

The owner is always passionate about his work, and I always look forward to trying something new. Staff is always friendly as well. If you enjoy live music, there is often live music on Friday nights. There is warmer, indoor seating, but there's also outdoor seating year round with blankets and heaters, which I am looking forward to trying in the next few weeks.

If you are interested in inarizushi and disappointed in its absence on the menu, I am excited to tell you that it's currently available off-menu, pricing equal to other nigiri sushion the menu and by the piece. If there's something else, it might be worth asking the owner if it's something that might be available.

This is one of Westfield's gems, and I am glad I found it.

Went for lunch on a weekday and was so impressed with food and service. A lot of restaurants overlook small things like rice that comes with entrees, but that was not the case at Chiba. Ordered the lunch special Salmon Teriyaki and it was so good! Rice was cooked so well had to take home the leftovers with leftover Teriyaki sauce haha! The shrimp tempura that came with the lunch special was crispy and tasty and had a perfect dipping sauce with it.

Also had the pleasure to speak with Keith the owner and he was really nice and it was clear he wants to ensure every customer has the best experience possible. Will definitely be back!
