My spouse and I stopped in to have a quick drink and waste a few minutes before a reservation we had at a local restaurant a little further South. We had been here before for shots and pool with friends, but we are not regulars. We sat at the bar and I ordered a gin and tonic and my spouse ordered an old fashioned. The bartender said sure, and came back with 2 drinks. One was a classic rocks glass of gin and tonic which is what I asked for. It was a perfectly good gin and tonic. The other was . . . something, but it was NOT an old fashioned. No muddled fruit, and it looked cloudy and was full of ice. My spouse took one drink and her face was one of shock and disgust. I was surprised by her reaction and took a drink myself to see what was wrong and it was awful. The closest taste profile I could come to was literally Robitussin. It was disgustingly floral, sickly sweet, and had a finish of vomit. We talked for a while as we futiley tried to identify what was actually in this glass, and ultimately decided that hey, it's a dive bar, they clearly just don't know how to make an old fashioned, so we flagged down a different bartender since the one who served us disappeared by that point. Note that no one had been by to check on us, our drinks, or anything else this entire time and we saw several servers, including the person who served us, vaping together in the back of the bar. We were given our check, I paid, not really paying attention to the price, and even tipped, having been in the service industry before. We left, went to another bar on the Devour Indy circuit, had a great time, and bought a couple drinks that totaled $31.92 including tax and a nice tip. We had a great rest of our evening and just decided that Windmill Tavern would just be a shots place from now on and would have moved on. Fast forward a week later and I look at my bank statement and I see a charge for $32.56 from the Windmill Tavern. I am confused as those were $8 drinks even if the old fashioned had been good, and we didn't order anything special or top shelf. I call, thinking that maybe we were just changed twice. I get a call back from the owner saying that we ordered a $12 "Double Tanqueray and Tonic" and $16 top shelf "Jefferson's Ocean Old Fashioned". I told him that we did not order any upgrades or a double and just said, "Well that's what you ordered." I explained that the old fashioned was truly awful and even encouraged him to try it to make sure it hadn't gone bad. He refused and tried to say maybe we just didn't like the blackberry syrup that was in it. I have had a sample of Jefferson's Ocean (which you can purchase a whole bottle for a little over $30 btw), and it did not taste like that, and if that was blackberry syrup, it has gone bad. Don't make our mistake. This is a shots place or a very simple drink place and watch your checks because they will double your drink without even asking you and serve you a top shelf liquor without your knowledge or consent and charge you ultra premium prices. Good luck staying open with those types of business practices and customer service. We sure will not be back.

Cute little tavern in small town Indiana. Have stopped here many times in the past. Service and quality of drinks used to be better before the remodel. Going to skip this place while passing through from now on. This place used to be packed, we stopped on a Friday night and there were only about 10 other customers in the place. Still it was hard to get service even though they were slow. I hope the owners the best and encourage them to check on their staff.

Old school tavern feel. Fried food a bit overcooked. Attentive wait staff. Charging a bit much for craft beer.

27 minutes away for us but worth the drive. Everything a bar should be, don't ever change. The remodel is nice. Just two things: Knock off about 30 secs on the fryer with the French fries and wife's fish (fish -n- chips) was a little overcooked. That's a tough one. It's hard to cook fish exactly right. Undercooked is awful--gray Jell-O--so it's always tempting to fry it. Just. A. Little. Longer. Oops, too long! My BLT was awesome with lots of flavorful, crispy bacon. Paired beautifully with the Blue Moon. Wife loved her seasoned fries. We'll be back. As per the late Toby Keith: We love this bar.
