The good thing is cashier desk personnel is usually friendly and helpful. Facilities are clean. Serving personnel is also nice. There are plenty of fruit and veggies. Food is unrestricted, we can take as much as we want (though it is not because of this particular DFAC, it's a general regulation)

The bad things are:

ICE feedback from doesn't work at all, they merely don't react to it.
Store labels should be taken out from fruit because soldiers eat them with labels (which are not noticeable).
Some salads and hot peppers are overwhelmed with vinegar.
Strawberry and blackberry are unripe and unsweet.
Onions are not always served. Green onions are not served at all.
Fries and other food contain excessive oil (btw there is an option to cook fries without oil at all).

This is not the best DFAC on FRK if being totally honest. Check out the DFAC by the hospital and whitside gym as it is by far the best one. Cantigny and all the DFACs have really high lunch rates for those who are not meal card holders (like $8 to $10 for lunch if not mistaken - breakfast is like half that price for whatever reason) and as a result they lose potential business to the Hospital Dining Cafeteria that is way cheaper and better consistent quality food and service. Cantigny is not one I would pay for unless maybe it is the annual holiday meal as then they go all out that one day of the year because the top brass comes and serves the food and it is on high visibility. But if you are going to try to get a cheap lunch, you are better going a la carte at the hospital cafeteria imo. If you are a buffet style grazer type of eater who wants to pig out then perhaps the DFACs could be a better deal for you as you will pay twice as much but can eat all you want if that is your thing - so to be fair that could be their advantage depending how fat you are and if you like to binge eat as for many Americans that is their thing. Otherwise, the DFACs are more just a mandated service forced upon the single soldiers who live in the barracks as I feel bad for them, because they should be given an option of getting their BAS in a commissary gift card each month or giving it to the DFAC as that way it still stays in the army systems but let’s the soldier have more choices and chances for eating healthy while keeping it for the Army by the Army. I found the Cantigny DFAC was often bad about managing the inventory as they seemed to just put it all out in terms of prepackaged foods and so the soldiers leave with like 8 milks, 3 ICE drinks, and 5 bags of chips and run down the supply as nothing is rationed out really or consistent because they do not man the stations or try to control some of the excessive waste. They had a taco bar at lunch at one point that was pretty solid! If you like fresh blueberries this was a steal too, as they let you serve yourself so you can eat a whole pack of fresh berries each day which the breakfast price itself pays for making the rest of your breakfast essentially free. So if you like fresh berries, then this is not a bad option.

Give it a chance is my advice and see if it is for you at least, but again if I am going to spend the money on lunch, I probably prefer the hospital cafeteria a la carte or DFAC by the hospital as both are nice atmosphere and less run down and better selections typically. Army’s Bday meal here is not bad and they make lots of cool cakes and decorations as that was always nice too!

For all the times I came here The DFAC was consistent with having everything I need to take care of myself and having all the Veggies and Fruits I need and the food is Pretty Good I recommend new comers coming to Fort Riley to sit down and eat here and the Guys here work hard to make sure everyone is well fed never left this place hungry

Everytime I’ve had Thanksgiving lunch there it was 🔥. The personnel there are great and during the week you have a little wait in line but once you’re in, it’s worth it

Food is run of the mill Dfac food. Meat is a bit dry and salad can taste unwashed. Drinks are warm unless you get it from the dispenser which is usually out of drink syrup.

Raw eggs overcooked steak to a point of where it can be use as a rock , service the soldiers treat you like they doing you a favor when you ask them for food unless they know you or you are one of his friends they change the schedule every week, every time I been there they have different hours of operation on the weekends they don’t even have clean plates they just used disposable plates and no trays or to-go containers are available during the weekends and sometimes even during the the week they seriously need to do something about this is a serious issues that have been going for a long period of time and is affecting the soldiers

Food and availability of dishes is pretty good if you go inside, but the drive thru is very much an afterthought. They rarely have utensils in the drive thru, even if they give you salad with dressing. Like, how exactly do y'all expect me to eat this? Like a dog? And then there's those times for breakfast when they give you cereal and apple juice. Am I supposed to pour the juice in my cereal and just drink it? Because again, no utensils.

Some days, the lines are so long that I don't have time to eat here, so I end up having to eat my own food, buy something at the PX, or go without eating. If it weren't for the fact that Uncle Sam forces me to pay for the DFAC, I wouldn't go half the time. If the DFAC can't stay open without forcing single soldiers to pay for it, then maybe it shouldn't exist.

This defac is just depressing.
It seems that there’s never anything ready.
you’re typically waiting for 20+ minutes.
The workers seem ready to work and are helpful, but it’s painful to ask for the same things every day. Can you please refill the Mayo? Ketchup? Milk? Pancakes? Bread? Utensils?
There’s a wide selection of drinks however typically the most liked beverage choices aren’t filled or stocked.
Theres also typically and E7 walking around but idk what his job is.. im always asking for refills in supplies even tho its his job to monitor and supervise.

The army has an issue with 22 a day. This defac isn’t helping that statistic.
