Family owned restaurant and lounge. Popular spot with the locals. People come here for the chicken, slaw and potato salad. Live bands with a dance floor on Saturday nights.

The best fried chicken in Pittsburg…and that’s saying something in a town filled with famous fried chicken! The Idle Hour’s tavern is a throwback and worth the visit. While the chicken is terrific, the beer ice cold, the service friendly and efficient, it’s the sides of potato salad and slaw (vinegar based) that keeps me coming back for more.

Had heard good things about this place in Frontenac Kansas, their main food options is for German fried chicken, slaw and potato salad but they also have steaks etc. I went with a couple who hadn’t been there before so we were eager to try it. We ordered onion rings for an appetizer and we all ordered the chicken and slaw and potato salad. We all grew up in southwest Missouri and the chicken restaurants (chicken Annie’s, chicken Mary’s etc were only 26 miles away) so we had hoped this place would be as good as those restaurants are but it wasn’t the case. The onion rings were fried too long, the chicken was good but nothing special and the slaw and potato salad weren’t very good at all. Service was good and we had food to take back but I hardly ate any of my slaw and potato salad and I left it. I took one piece of chicken breast back with me but I gave it away. Maybe it was an off night but I can’t recommend it

Love their chicken! Tuesday night is a great night to go. 2 for $25.00. Best way to go. Their onion rings are yummy too.

The bathrooms were clean. The staff was pleasant and efficient. Beer was good and cold! The inside was very much like a cafeteria or your grandma's 70s kitchen but without much lighting. Gizzards were fresh and hot! The coleslaw was tasty, and that was where the food being good ended. The butter is sweetened, which is okish on the bread. However, NOT good on an overly dry baked potato. Neither of us could figure out how the heck the steaks were cooked they were grey, and the flavor was strange. They were, however, cooked correctly, so we'll give em that. I can't say I've ever paid for a more disappointing meal. We didn't complain about the food bc really, but there was no fixing it. I will say our cats were pleased so there is a positive there.

Love the chicken here. Always good service. A place out of another time when things were more simple and everyone is your neighbor.
