The best fried chicken in Pittsburg…and that’s saying something in a town filled with famous fried chicken! The Idle Hour’s tavern is a throwback and worth the visit. While the chicken is terrific, the beer ice cold, the service friendly and efficient, it’s the sides of potato salad and slaw (vinegar based) that keeps me coming back for more.

Had heard good things about this place in Frontenac Kansas, their main food options is for German fried chicken, slaw and potato salad but they also have steaks etc. I went with a couple who hadn’t been there before so we were eager to try it. We ordered onion rings for an appetizer and we all ordered the chicken and slaw and potato salad. Went back after 20 years. Our waitress has been there 32 years.
The chicken and chicken livers are amazing. It crunchy and crispy and freshly cooked to order.
I highly recommend Bartos.
