My wife and I are from Howard . We originally were going to eat at Down Home Restaurant but they must be closed on Mondays so we drove on up the road and spotted El Pueblito restaurant. I was a little leery at first as there was only a couple of cars outside but we were hungry for anything besides McDonalds. We were quite impressed as the food was VERY GOOD. By the time we left the parking lot was full. The locals knew what we didn't . (the service was also excellent.)

We had planned to eat somewhere else but they were closed. We passed El Pueblito and decided to give it a try. Best decision we made today. Service was excellent! Chips where thin and crispy, salsa was good. Food was out quickly, it was hot and fresh and good sized portions. Everything tasted great. He had a combo platter, I had Fajitas. The restaurant was clean and bright. The music was in the background didn't have to shout over it. We will be back!!

This was our favorite Mexican restaurant to go to but not today. The food was okay. Appearance was bland, service was just okay at best. The staff just just seemed like they cared at all. We're really disappointed. Maria's is 1000× than this. And because I ordered the same thing at 3 different restaurants , the serving size was smaller and so bland. Very disappointed.

I really like coming here every now and then because they serve delicious mexican dishes! I totally recommend it.

Back to El Pueblito for great food. Served by nice folks in nice surroundings. They have a big menu. Lots of choices. Cheese dip is great, just great. We especially like the tamales. usually getting one ala carte along with a dinner item. The Jalisco burrito is a favorite. And recently tried the PopEye chicken. Strips of chicken with spinach and mushrooms smothered in cheese sauce. Served with rice and beans and tortillias. Very very good item. Their salsa has come a long ways and is just delicious served with crispy fresh chips. Love this place.

Very friendly service, food was fast and fresh. Great food at a good price. Would recommend if in the area.

Large selection of delicious Mexican food. The chips and salsa are the best we get in the area. Their margaritas are the best I have had in any southeast Kansas restaurant. The staff is very friendly, and the restaurant has room for large parties.

We enjoyed it the first couple times (big portion); and it turned into the last place we would go (3 Mexicans places in Independence)... not negative, just like others better (Maria’s) I think you’ll enjoy your first visit, and you can formulate your own idea. Other people enjoy it, and consistently go there A lot of food, good quality... clean, etc

Love the food and the staff every time we come here! Used to make a point to come in EVERY TIME I was in town but since they quit making flan (the best I've ever had - and I lived in Mexico) it's just another option now. Bring back the flan!!!!

Ok, not Arizona quality but the best around here. Standard Americanized Mexican selections. Chips are usually warm and salsa is mild and ok. Entrees are very good and filling. My only complaint, Carnitas are not authentic but stewed and tolerable. Still, we are regulars. Employees are friendly. There are several locations in 30 mile radius but this location is the only one worth your time.

El Pueblito has been our family’s favorite Indy restaurant for years and we always try to stop there when we’re in the area. Some family favorites are taco salad, quesadillas, and the white queso with chips. Service is always great and the prices are reasonable.
