Donnell's Kitchen & Lounge

We were looking for something new to us that served fried catfish and found Donnell's. So we went to Argentine in KCKS and meet Kristen and Craig. They obviously have a personal approach to their restaurant.

Parking was easy and entrance accessible. We went in the mid afternoon on a Thursday. It's a kid friendly family restaurant.

The fried catfish platter was excellent. We ordered sides of fried okra and mashed potatoes and gravy. The catfish was cooked perfectly with a crunchy cornmeal breading, seasoned just right. The okra, also perfect, was not cornbread batter. Instead it was a light batter that was crunchy, leaving the okra tender and tasty. Potatoes and gravy were also just right with a hint of light Roux.

They do serve adult beverages.

This easily rivals, or exceeds, food in mobile and New Orleans. I can see myself becoming a regular whenever in KC!

So many wonderful choices to choose from. I wanted to try everything. The plan was to take the food home to eat but I decided to try some while in traffic. That was a mistake, a good one. I ate it all before getting home, it was delicious with lots of flavor. I'll definitely be back to try the others I was eye balling. The bartender lady was very pleasant 👌

The table at the foyer with the circled mirror is such a refreshing touch! The food was devoured before I could even reach my destination—delicious and make with so much love!!!! The conversation with the hostess was so sweet I can only pray other experiences such grace and kindness!!!! Want great food with an amazing experience OUTSIDE JUST A DATE? This place hit the spot!! The spice was just right. We ordered catering here for the first time and no one was disappointed. The food was hot fresh and so good. Green beans, mashed potato's, wings, catfish and cornbread all where seasoned to perfection. When a place is able to make 150 people happy it is a win to me!!! The feed back I got from my team was excellent!! The two ladies that delivered our food, such sweethearts. Friendly, super kind and helpful. They worked together as a team so gracefully. I highly recommended this place. It is well worth the stop and give them a try. I will be dinning in next time and bringing my family :) Thank you so much for making a cloudy Tuesday bright. 10/10

The best soul food in KC. Nieces is trash and peach tree has gone downhill. Everything at donnells is homemade even the tartar sauce. No instant mash. Theres a 90s r and b vibe in here. Corn bread is that super cakey honey laden delightful. Everything i had was awesome- catfish, greens, chicken. Service was fast n friendly. Negatives are kinda pricey and small portions, but they know what they have. Will be back.

This has to be one of my all time favorite places to eatEverything I have had is fantastic. She knows how to cook. Shrimp and Grits is my favorite dish but the catfish is a close second.

I was in Missouri for a week working and stumbled upon this gem. I can’t say enough good things about this spot. Great service, great ppl in the kitchen, and the food was even better. The catfish and shrimp étouffée was by far the best meal I had in Missouri / Kansas .

When I tell you get the greens!!!! They didn’t just put their foot in baby it was the whole body in the pot!! I thought I was back home, in the south, in my grandmas kitchen. Service was amazing! Atmosphere on point! Ten stars ⭐️ oh and the seasoning is on point too. We had the catfish and the chicken tenders. Not too salty like these other places around here.

My husband and I were traveling after we left the taco and tequila festival and I wanted some soul food but didn’t know where to go and I love the little holes in the wall 😂 I grew up around them and I stumbled across this fine gem. I got the ultimate platter and it came with two sides but I got an extra side after seeing the inside 😂 I promise the food was fresh and my husband had got the pork chop platter and I also got a drink I promise this is a spot that I will continue to come too whenever I come down to kc because I promise you will not be disappointed with the portions. RUN DONT WALK!!!!

I really enjoyed my meal. The server (Kristen) was so personable and fun to chat with. The greens were VERY tasty and so was the Mac & cheese. The lunch portion of the fried chicken comes with fries but the extra sides we bought were worth it. The catfish was also fried and seasoned very well and the Long Island iced tea I had was perfectly balanced. I will be returning.

We took my sister-in-law to Donnell's for her birthday because she loves soul food. Everyone went away with full tummies and a smiles. The staff are very friendly, welcoming, and attentive. The atmosphere is perfect. Great music playing in the background but not too loud so you can enjoy the music and conversation. The food OMG, hands down some of the best I have had. Shrimp ettouffee with catfish strips, shrimp and grits, shrimp po'boy, fried pork chop, collard greens, onion rings.... everything was amazing. We will definitely be back.

When I say this food is like your grandma made it…I mean it!! Made with love and the seasonings is on POINT!! I felt at home by the way I was greeted. Definitely coming back soon 💙
