I just have to shout this out — El Camino Real is one of those places that makes you pause and say, “Yes, this is exactly what I was craving.”
From the moment I walked in, the vibe was warm and welcoming and you could tell they care about every dish. But the real star? Their barbacoa consomé. Every bite felt like the kind of authentic, deeply-flavored comfort food you dream of. The meat is tender, full of savory richness, the broth around it is balanced with spices and warmth, and the tortillas served alongside make it perfect for dipping and pairing.
The barbacoa consomé here doesn’t play — it’s insane in the best possible way. I’ve had barbacoa before, but this one hits differently. It’s the kind of dish you remember and want to come back to again and again.
If you’re looking for real-deal Mexican flavors — not just the surface level — and a dish that makes you feel like you’ve found a secret favorite, put El Camino Real on your list. You won’t regret it.

Kansas City KS has a wealth of Mexican/Hispanic restaurants; El Camino Real is one of the best for quality food and reasonable prices.

Tacos were solid. Rice was disappointing but the beans were fire. El pastor tacos was disappointing as well. I will come back and give another try.

Went in for a quick bite while I was on my break. Chips and salsa were great, spicy salsa was fire. Lengua tacos were so freaking fresh and tasty.

Very good food I recommend it
My partner and I arrived and all the waitresses were sitting and just looking at us as if we were interrupting them. Well, a lady told us to sit down and very kindly served us.
We ordered two cakes with 7 tacos and a side of rice and two cokes. The lady never brought the rice. If they were busy, no problem, but they were all sitting around gossiping.
Then he wanted to charge us for the rice. And they overcharged us. We tried to tell them they made excuses and still ask for a tip. We won't go again. I was a waitress for many years and being involved in gossip instead of serving customers, especially when it's just one table and the rest of the restaurant empty is not good.
I don't recommend here.
I came here with my partner and we walked in the servers were all sitting in the middle of the dinning room all chatting and looking at us like we interrupted.
A nice lady guided us to our table and we ordered two cakes some rice and 5 tacos to go. Point of it is we got no rice and the whole time servers were just sitting and chatting. When it came pay time they overcharged us and when we tried to tell them they just said they weren't wrong and still asked for a tip.
I was a server for many years and I understand down time but sitting there chatting and messing up the only other table that was there is ridiculous.
I do not recommend.

The food was good, but I think it was overpriced for carne asada and a bottle of Coke It was almost $23. There's only one piece of steak.
