This is the experience for Mexican I had been looking for in Lawrence! As a student and as someone in customer service, I can understand slow service or being swamped with too much to do. Instead, my server (I think his name was Zack but I remember a manbun) went above and beyond while seemingly juggling tasks. Previously I had been in with a group of friends and tried an avocado enchilada, it was pretty good, but not a new favorite. Zack (I think?) had me try the Texas chimi which I’m already wanting more of. The food was lovely, the decor was lovely, the server especially was knowledgeable, kind, but also with plenty of banter to make the experience memorable. Whenever I’m not swamped myself I’ll be a new regular :)

I had the beef chicken and cheese enchiladas and I will admit they were the best I have ever had. I normally do not like the Mexican rice but theirs was fantastic and well as the refried beans. The only negative I could find was their salsa. It was pretty runny and had ok flavor. We will be back for sure. We live 45 minutes away and this was our first time here. It is worth the drive to go back.

Service was absolutely horrible!, for the most part our server just ignored us and they weren't busy at all there may have been 2 other tables seated

We have eaten here several times. The service has always been slow and inconsistent. Most recently, we ordered a door dash (it arrived in the allotted time) and there were deep fried cockroaches in our food. We will absolutely not be a patron again.

I recently enjoyed a delicious Mexican dinner at El Jimador in West Lawrence. The menu offers a wide variety of Mexican stables. However, our server, Zac made our dining experience the best. His knowledge of the menu was excellent and he made excellent suggestions when I was try to choose between items on the menu. His service throughout the meal was great, making certain we had chips and salsa as well as water and napkins. If you visit El Jimador be sure to ask to have Zac as your server and you won’t be disappointed.

Thank the heavens, my favorite salsa is back. I just want to put in my vote for the habanero salsa to stick around. So much yum!

We get the same thing every time - it’s always delicious. The bacon wrapped shrimp are yummy! We were the first customers dining in today. My daiquiri took a few minutes to be made so I asked the server who set our food down if it was coming to which she replied “well a table of 10 just sat down and since we’re the only two people here running a bar and serving”…. I didn’t think that was an appropriate response. Everything is usually fine here service wise but today was just odd.

First...was seated other people seated afterwards. Approximately total of six tables. Mine and other tables were served our drinks. Friends was not.30 minutes later her drink still hasn't arrived. 2. Food for all 6 tables were being prepared as one order. Needless to say, some orders were getting cold while others were being prepared. Friend left. I went to pay for my drink 3.... order was $7.45, gave her $10 bill.waitress, Sharon? I think, asked if I had anything smaller. Wouldd not give me my change? She did not apologize nor gave me my change @ 4. Negative 5 rating !

I wish I could leave no stars it was that bad. Normally when I go my server is Avery and service is very good. Tonight I took my family out for my nieces birthday. It took forever to be seated and once seated we were forgotten about. Not only that, when we went to find someone to get service after a 30 minute wait at the table, the server acted like we were inconveniencing him. When we asked for additional salsa, the eye rolls from the server was incredible. We asked to speak to a manager… and unfortunately even that was quite an experience. This is too bad because I liked the location and I used to like this place. If you go, make sure you ask for Avery to be your server if you want to have any level of service at all. Exercise caution and manage your expectations before entering this establishment. You will be dissatisfied.
Best food,must try.

TL;DR Long wait, had to beg to be acknowledged, food was wrongWe waited a ridiculously long time without any acknowledgement while staff were all around us clearly avoiding eye contact. I get it, I've waited tables, but a simple, "Hi, we're really busy right now. Someone will be with you as soon as they can," goes a long way over me having to flag someone down who is then displeased in response to me being displeased that no one will help us. Finally got our food, got home and discovered one of the dishes was wrong. Went back to exchange. After reheating the rest, the food was good, but definitely not worth the experience.

My husband and I just ate there for lunch. An unexpected delicious surprise. I ordered the chicken flautas with charro beans and rice. The chicken is seasoned well, very flavorful, paired with the guacamole and sour cream dolloped on top. The beans and rice were definitely well seasoned. My husband ordered the Bandera Mexicana, which is 3 enchiladas of your choice with rice and beans. The enchilada sauce rivals my Mexican grandmas. It was all worth the price! We will be returning!
