El Potro Mexican cafe Lawrence

We live close to El Potro so we go there frequently. We always have the best service no matter how busy they are. The staff is kind and friendly and they work hard! Food is always great!

Lunch flautas were burned on the ends and the chicken was dried out. Was able to eat just the middle of one and gave up . Very disappointed.

It was disappointing and I wouldn’t recommend eating there. There was a cockroach on my plate

It's so nice to get a little dish of queso along with salsa and chips to start with! We were there for lunch - they have an extensive menu. We had a chicken enchilada and chimichanga, both of which were tasty. The frozen margarita was very good, too.
UPDATE: definitely 5 stars today. I couldn't stop eating the chips and salsa, and my crispy chicken taco and side of rice were so tasty. Best of all, shout-out to our lovely server Alma! So nice being your patrons.

I really can’t say why this place gets the ratings it does. I think it might be because they give you free queso and chips and salsa and the drink and meal portions are large, and that’s all that us overweight americans seem to care about. The food was just greasy flavorless mush with no soul whatsoever that could have come straight out of the microwave. Really disappointing. The wait staff however were great. Friendly and attentive.

I took almost all of my direct family for a New Year's lunch on Jan 2nd. It was the first time I went to El Potro. We showed up at 11 AM. This was the only negative was that despite putting in a "reservation" to say we would have a large party showing up at 11 AM, they still had to find us a place to sit and arrange the tables. After that, everything became great! We started out with unlimited chips, queso and salsa. They even had salsa that was spicy for me! The meals themselves were very large portions and MOST of us had take-home bags. The wait staff was courteous and just plain great! When plates were emptied, or refills provided, if you blinked the table had the empty plates/glasses removed. Great service providing near constant attention! We were a large party (5 adults and 7 kids), and the value was outstanding. I went bigger on my tip when I realized that there was not an automatically charged a tip for a large party, and that the total bill was about 40% less than I was expecting. I guess giving everyone BUT me the "lunch" menu rather than the full menu worked out! I highly recommend!

Horrible experience. I asked the waiter and waitress questions and they couldn't answer. Didn't speak english. Burrito very dry and spicy even though description didn't mention spicy. My husband and I had horrible cramps ALL DAY after eating. We sat outside and there were bugs all over our food. The list goes on...
