Service was not good at all. Price was not ideal for 3 tacos. The menu is very small and not a lot to choose from. Not once did we have anyone ask how our food was. Not at all what we expected. Since when is chips and salsa not included with your order??

Perfect margarita Suck!!! No alcohol. Over rated!!!!
Love the patio and the food is pretty good but overpriced. You don’t have much in the way of options, even the chips and salsa are not included. Oh and the queso is out of a can, not good.
You walk inside, order and pay. Get your drinks and go outside. They bring the food and they’re done. No one bothered to check on our food or to see if we wanted refills. It’s kind of like they found an easy way out of service and a full menu after Covid. Only difference is they’ve opened the inside seating.
Good food, limited items, poor effort for the patrons.

We have visited this restaurant many times and have especially enjoyed the patio during the summer. So today we brought a party of six people to celebrate a birthday. Despite us being one of the few customers in the restaurant, the young lady on duty was completely uninterested to us. We waited patiently and placed our order. The order included 6 meals, 4 drinks and an appetizer for a total of $133 plus a $20 tip which I left at the time of ordering. One item we wanted could not be ordered because the lady had neglected to change the specials from the previous day.
It became apparent we needed 2 baskets of chips because of the size of our party. NOPE, said the lady in an completely indifferent manner, we charge extra for chips. When I pointed out the $153 order I had already placed and paid for, she bluntly said no again, it's just policy, we don't hand out free chips. She was almost defensive about it, like we were asking for something not customary in literally EVERY other similarly themed restaurant. We have asked for extra chips during prior visits to La Tropicana and it's never been an issue, but apparently it became one today. When I went inside to pay for the chips and commented that maybe the $20 tip was excessive, she promptly thrust the original receipt in my face and told me to feel free to change the tip if I wanted. I returned to the outdoor table without changing it, though I wish now that I had.
We never did see any wait staff again. A man brought us our meals, but that was the only staff interaction we had. Nobody asked about refills, satisfaction with our meals, if they could get us anything else, nothing. The food was pretty typical for La Tropicana ... just fair, good enough to eat but not good enough to make a special trip for it. The appeal of this restaurant is the outdoor patio, although the treatment we received more than offset the patio's presence.
I doubt we will be back anytime soon. If we ever go back and the same woman is taking orders, we will turn about and go somewhere else. I recognize that everyone walks in different shoes and perhaps hers were taking a difficult path today, but that doesn't excuse treating customers poorly and then ignoring them when they point out the poor treatment. Maybe if enough people choose to avoid a similar experience, this restaurant will improve its customer service and the products it offers.

I had read all the reviews about having to order and then they bring the food. It was weird, but ok. Paying $6 for a basket of chips isn't really cool but they were good. The food was really good and I am kind of a mexican good snob, growing up with authentic mexican. They do not have regular frozen margaritas, just on the rocks which was a huge disappointment for me. My husband had the frozen mango margarita and it was just ok. They can definitely do better there. We sat on the patio on a beautiful evening so was worth trying. With so many great options for mexican food in Lawrence, I will say I probably won't be returning. The margarita is a deal breaker for me. 3 stars instead of 5 for that reason. Seems like an easy thing for them to correct.

Worse Mexican restaurant I have ever ate at. Menu is very limited. Chips were not free but we received Pico sauce ??? You have to order at the door when you walk in. Few choices on the menu. Waitress did not service the table. No one ask us about refills. Customers were going back up to where you order for refills. Salt and pepper were the only items on the tables, no napkins. I will not eat here again, nor will I recommend this place.
La Tropicana has the best outdoor patio in town. Plenty of seating, plants and lively pottery to view, and very well shaded. The food is excellent and generous. It is a gem.
Wonderful as always. Would love it if you didn't have to pay for chips & salsa with a $14 plate.
This place has been one of my all time favorites for many years! The food is incredible! Some of the best Mexican food I have had. Service is stellar. Food is made to order and ALWAYS fresh! If you have not tried this restaurant, I highly suggest a trip across bridge.
We came here with some friends because we drive by and say we wanted to go try it out. It’s a great little neighborhood place with nice colorful decor. Fitting for the restaurant. We had fantastic service and delicious food. The food is nothing over the top but the service, food and margaritas combo makes it worthwhile.
