Too loud to have a conversation without yelling. Service what you expect in a bar like atmosphere; slow. If the weather is at all amenable, sit outside for a totally different experience. The food is good.

Great food and great service! We enjoy that the menu always has our tried and true favorites as well as seasonal items. We tried the soft sell crab and it really was exceptional.

Food is great. Atmosphere is always very noisy due to poor acoustics and little sound absorbing materials.

Wendy

Always amazing service, food, and drinks! Food always cooked perfectly and full of flavor.

Fantastic spot for fresh fish and high quality cocktails in Lawrence. Ambience and service were excellent too.

Mass Street Fish House does have excellent food, but unfortunately the food is over dressed with lots of extra when there is not need. Such as I had the black cod otherwise know as Butter fish. Was pan fried instead of say like in Japanese style slow moist roast with miso sauce that allows the fish to be soft and melty. Whill Mass street fish was good it was a bit tough due to high heat preparation and had a crust on the outside beneth the fish was potatoes and mushrooms with a tasteless green sauce. None of that was really needed all wass needed was the simple Fish slow steamed to allow the fish to speak for itself with maybe a side of veggies or in Japanese style fresh daikon. My mother wanted scalops and while the scalps were good they were again over dressed up. There. was no need for the roasted cabbage and fennel sauce that actually coveered up the taste of the scallops. In addition her scallops were sered with hot red pepper fresh, and slice jalepeon what is the point of such heat. All she wanted was pan fried scallops bathed in a butter sauces. The Ahi Nachos were good and fresh. The service staff was friendly food came in good time and was served at a good temp. The noise level was high with loud music which maybe fine for some diners but for my mother who has hearing issues it made it hard to talk to her and her hearing aide the sounds just echoed. And the more people the louder the sound. The porportions were of the right size one was filled but not over stuffed. The price point for good fresh fish in Lawerence Kansas such as for black cod was at a good price point just did not have to have so much business going on and needed a more deft hand to ensure that it lived up to its name of being butter fish. It was just to firm. And the green sauce had no tast and I didn't understand the need for potatos.

This was our 54th anniversary and we couldn't have celebrated anywhere better. The service was excellent. We had cocktails, then wine, then digestifs. Everything was great. The good, as always, was terrific. I will mention that the paella was extraordinary. I had to hold my wife back from licking the plate. Congratulations to Laura and her staff.

If you love liberal Lawrence this is the meeting place for the most sensitive and "In The Know" people in LLK.

We drive 45 minutes to go to this restaurant. The ahi tuna nachos are amazing. I dream about them! The food is always fresh and sitting outside is so very nice! Love this place.

Honestly, I can't speak highly enough of the place.

The staff and atmosphere were top-notch, presenting a high-class but homey feel that meshes perfectly. The staff was extremely knowledgeable of their menu and able to answer any question thrown at them.

The food was fantastic, the Paella was worth every penny, and the drink did nothing but compliment it. Overall, it was an awesome experience.

Took my parents here, we had never been. We went about 5pm on a Tuesday and it was fairly busy. I didn’t make reservations but didn’t need to, we were seated right away. If I was going to go on a weekend or later at night I would definitely make reservations, they continued to get busier as it got later. They have about 3 different levels of seating, so it is bigger than it looks on the outside. It was a really cute but cozy atmosphere. Everyone was laid back but the service was good. Good explanation of their menus and happy hour offerings. Calamari is the best we have had in Lawrence. The sauce is awesome. We also had the local bread starter offering. It was a whole wheat sourdough that was really good. We saw someone get the ahi nachos and those looked really good. Fish and chips were good. 2 huge pieces of cod. I had the lobster roll. It was more of a lobster salad on a hoagie. I am more of a basic lobster and butter on my lobster roll, I probably wouldn’t get it again I would try something else. The fries are really good. My mom had the $5 fried cod tacos, which were good. My dad had the salmon BLT. If you like smoked salmon this sandwich was really good. We usually don’t do dessert but my dad insisted we try some desserts. We had the coffee crème brûlée, a scoop of the Java chip ice cream and apple cobbler. They were all really good. The apple cobbler was the star though. Had apple butter on the bottom, it was good. We would have that again.
Overall we liked the atmosphere, lots of options with food, and the service was great. We will be back.

My favorite place in Lawrence! Love the ahi tuna nachos and all of our dishes were tasty. Also loved our little corner table upstairs where we could have a nice view of the action in the restaurant.

We could not have been treated any nicer and all of the employees were attentive and friendly. Unfortunately the food was a mix of good and disappointing. The lobster in the pasta dish was overcooked and rubbery. But the oysters were good as was the black bass. Conversation was very difficult with how noisy the place was. I wish we had opted for an outdoor seat.

At first glance, it’s easy to get lost in the endless dining choices on Mass St., yet there’s one spot that keeps drawing us back time and time again. And trust me, I come with credentials—being the daughter and granddaughter of chefs, I know my way around a kitchen.

But here’s the scoop: If you haven’t tried their Salmon BLT, you’re missing out. The secret? They’ve got a smoker tucked away in the back, infusing the dish with a flavor that’s a cut above the rest.

And let’s talk service. It’s not just polite smiles and quick refills—they truly care. It's that rare combination of exceptional food and heartfelt hospitality that keeps me coming back for more.
