I hate to leave a bad review for this restaurant. I should have left positive reviews in the past. This has been my favorite restaurant for a long time. The food is always great too. But recently, it has not been up to the standards that it’s used to. Like I said, I should have left a lot of positive reviews and haven’t unfortunately I’m coming here with a negative one. I’m not sure what’s going on, but the meters is hard and not Tinder and the ride taste like it was cooked yesterday. I’m only leaving this review in case something happened that they could correct The last three times the food has not been near what it used to be. Maybe I just get off days I hope so. I’ll try it one more time just because I love these people and love this restaurant. I’ll leave an update on the next visit.

Hyundai is a combination of Korean restaurant and market. The food is very authentic and loaded with varieties of Korean stuff from cookware, noodles and ramen to snacks. The also have kim chi in the refrigerator and Korean chopsticks. Very friendly Korean ladies making you welcome. This place is a gem outside the base if you are looking for comfort Korean food and stuff.

Update: Came here tonight for dinner. The young woman who served us was very friendly and attentive 👍🏻
What we ordered:
1.) Beef Shortrib Soup $15.99 the broth was very tasty and well balanced the beef were more on the bland side, but tender and moist as they should be! It was so good I ordered one to go also…😂
2.) Galbi short ribs $24.99 my hubby liked the well rounded flavor and was BBQ just right.
Side note: the Kimchi was fresh and tasty and we got several refills.

Located off Shawnee St. and connect to the restaurant
This is a review on the Korean Asian Market section Only.
I needed to buy some Asian products and just did not feel like driving into Kansas…so we decided to give this spot a go.
For a quick trip this place will do.

Wow! To be honest, being from Chicago, I didn’t not have high expectations on this small town place. But my wife was craving some hearty galbitang so I obliged. Very impressed. This place is much better than most Korean joints in Chicago land. Price is good, generous portions. The galbitang was very rich and flavorful with good quality meat. The Yuk Gae Jang was similar.

This restaurant should advertise on the Leavenworth army base. There are many soldiers there who’ve done tours in Korea that I’m sure would love to gobble down a big pot of bude jigae with their mates.

Highly recommend!

Superior Customer Service ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I stopped in at Hyundai Korean Restaurant in Leavenworth, Kansas, this morning, and I have to say it was an incredible experience from start to finish. I arrived almost an hour before opening, just after a morning walk, and the owner kindly welcomed me in anyway. That level of kindness is rare, and I truly appreciated her hospitality. She was so kind and made me feel right at home.

The server offered me some recommendations, and I went with the beef bulgogi (pronounced bool-go-gee). It was absolutely delicious — tender beef with rich flavor, paired perfectly with rice. She also brought me small side dishes (kimchi, cucumbers, bean sprouts, and another tasty dish) that really made the meal authentic and complete.

The price was very affordable for the quality and quantity of food. Between the warmth of the owner, the server’s thoughtful recommendations, and the unforgettable taste, this place has definitely earned a new loyal customer.

Highly recommended if you’re looking for genuine Korean food served with true hospitality.

Great place to eat Korean. The banchan (side dishes) didn't have a lot of variety & the kimchi wasn't as fresh as it could've been.

Glad I stumbled across this place while looking for new Korean food options! Definitely make sure you stop by if you're out in Leavenworth. They have a small market along with the kitchen and dining area. Unfortunately the market portion was already closed when we arrived.

On to the good stuff - The food was great and everything cooked perfectly! The kimchi stew was slightly sweet which balanced out the spiciness. Kimchi pancake was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The gal-bi-tang was wonderful as well!

To be honest, the kimchi didn’t taste like much—it was kind of bland and neither here nor there. I also had the ramen and kimbap set menu, and honestly, the ramen was the worst I’ve ever had. I don’t understand why they put carrots and onions in ramen. And why did they add so much water? It ended up tasting like nothing at all. As for the kimbap, to be honest, it tasted like they just put the ingredients on top of plain, unseasoned rice and rolled it up. There wasn’t much kimchi in the kimchi soup.

The kimchi jjigae was a bit sweet.there were a lot of onions in it, which seemed to be more than the amount of kimchi. There was also quite a bit of meat. It had been a while since I had Korean food, so I really enjoyed it overall.

The stir-fried squid portion was enough for two women to share. However, it had a strong sesame oil flavor, possibly because too much was used, and it wasn’t spicy at all.

The food took a long time to come out,

A serious hidden gem! My wife and I went for the first time. Will NOT be an ONLY time. The food is comparable to what you would get in South Korea. Prices are extraordinarily fair for the quality and amount of food.

A Hidden Gem with Mom-Vibes, Beef & Bop, and… Blankets?!

Listen. I came here for dinner. I left with a full belly, a plan to return, and possibly a new addiction to Korean pantry snacks. This place is that good.

We ordered the hot bowl beef and bop, and let me tell you—if comfort food had a Korean grandma, this would be her specialty. Perfectly seasoned, sizzling, soul-warming. Every bite was like a hug from someone who knows you’ve had a long week. Then came the cream pancake… soft, sweet, creamy magic. I still don’t know what’s in it, but I’d like to sign a legally binding agreement to eat one weekly.

The service? So kind. So attentive. Like I accidentally wandered into someone’s living room and they decided to feed me because I looked hungry. It’s a true mom-and-pop operation, and it shows—in the best way.

Decor? Okay, we’re not talking Michelin ambiance here, but honestly, who cares? The food does all the heavy lifting. It’s fresh, authentic, and made with love. What more do you need?

Bonus plot twist: there’s a little Korean market in the back of the restaurant. You heard me right. Like a secret passage to a world of spicy chips, instant noodles, beauty products, and a suspiciously cozy-looking blanket I am definitely coming back for. Plus, their freezer section has hard-to-find Asian goodies that would normally require a long trek to a giant international market.

TL;DR:
Come for the food. Stay for the vibes. Leave with snacks. Possibly a blanket.
100% will be back. Probably too often.
