Black dog and Ibis bakery used to be wonderful. They recently sold and it shows. I’ve given them a few more shots but now I’m grumpy. The last couple times I have gone, including today, the baristas and service have been horrible. Drinks coming out incorrect tasting. No one taking your order because the staff are playing and chatting and ignoring customers
The clincher is the last three times I ordered the cheese slipper it’s been bad. It’s nowhere near as good as it used to be and they keep burning them. BUT even worse, today was the first day mine had two1/2 inch blocks of cheese in the whole loaf. They decided to cut costs by cutting all the cheese out it seems. I’m over shrinkflation but if I wanted a plain ciabatta with cheese on top I could go to hyvee for 4$. I came here because the bread used to be good. I spent 30$ which is a LOT these days.
And no I’m not overreacting because if I ordered the same cheeseburger and toppings at Culver’s for a decade then one day they kept the price and menu and description the same and took off all the toppings to cut corners and brought me a plain burger l’d also be mad. That’s not what I was paying for.

Almond croissant was amazing, avocado toast was spicy, drinks were good, chai tea latte and mocha breve but all the above was $32! A bit over priced but love the vibe.

KC has a lot of excellent local coffee shops besides Starbucks, but this is the top quality shop with a twist in the whole area.
Black Dog been around for a while, does some of the best blended’s and specialty mixes and has local and in house breads and pastry’s for the twist. Top quality to me.
This is one of the larger and better atmosphere locations for a chat with a friend, family or work associate. I keep coming back.
BD has easy access on 87th pkwy from all of Johnson county and there is a “secret” short cut if you come down down KC road and turn on Rosehill for those west of I35 in Olathe.
If you realize the lot directly to the east is for BD, there is ample parking at all hours.
First time here is felt very welcoming when I walked in the baristas were very helpful

Wide range of bakery options, cafe beverages, and a small but good selection of food. Has vegetarian options, and dairy-free milk options. When it gets very busy things move pretty fast. Be aware food is brought out to you, but drinks must be picked up at the counter.
