“Every time I went to the 'ville for a night, I started at Porters because it's one of the few bars in aggieville that's worth being sober for. It was little Frat-heavy but not in a bad way. “This morning, I had the pleasure of indulging in a Chicken Fried Steak Skillet for breakfast at Hy-Vee in Manhattan, KS, and it was nothing short of a culinary masterpiece. Larry, the culinary artist, deserves high praise not only for creating an exceptional breakfast but also for managing the entire kitchen and register single-handedly when I walked in to order—a feat that’s truly remarkable. The Chicken Fried Steak was cooked to perfection, boasting a crispy, golden crust that encased tender, flavorful meat. The sausage gravy, generously ladled over the top, was rich and creamy, with just the right amount of seasoning to complement the steak without overpowering it. It was a perfect marriage of textures and flavors that left me craving more with each bite. Topping the skillet were the scrambled eggs, light and fluffy, with a vibrant yellow hue that signaled their freshness. The eggs were cooked just right, soft and moist without being runny, adding a comforting layer of warmth to the dish. But the pièce de résistance had to be the toast. It was toasted to a golden brown, crisp on the outside while remaining soft and buttery on the inside. Paired with strawberry jelly, it was the perfect sweet contrast to the savory skillet. Larry clearly took care to achieve the perfect balance in every aspect of this meal. What makes this breakfast experience even more impressive is the fact that Larry was the only one in the kitchen at the time, juggling both the cooking and handling the register. Despite the pressure, he delivered a meal that was meticulously crafted with attention to detail and a passion for quality. His dedication to his craft deserves to be recognized, as he managed to create an extraordinary dining experience under challenging circumstances. Kudos to Larry and the team at Hy-Vee for delivering a morning meal that truly stands out, and for the exceptional service that made it all possible.“
