We stopped into The So Long Saloon and were blown away from the very first bite. We ordered the world‑famous black bean dip, and it absolutely lives up to its name. Creamy, flavorful, and topped with that hint of raspberry, it was to die for and the perfect start to our meal.
We also sampled a variety of dishes, and every single one was top‑notch:
Fish Tacos: perfectly flaky fish with a great mix of crunch and spice.
Chef’s Grilled Cheese with Potato Salad: the bread was toasted to absolute perfection, and the whole sandwich felt elevated while still comforting.
Steak n’ Cheddar with Spicy Slaw: incredible flavor and, again, that perfectly toasted bread made it unforgettable.
The staff was friendly and attentive, and even though the space was smaller than expected, it added to the charm. The historic bar and ornate mirror gave the place so much character, we loved the atmosphere just as much as the food.
If you’re in Manhattan, KS, The So Long Saloon is absolutely worth the visit. We’ll definitely be back!

Walked in and was immediately greeted, handed a menu, and given great recommendations which is always a solid first impression. I went with the peanut butter burger they suggested, and honestly… next level. The balance of sweet and savory was unreal, and the ingredients tasted incredibly fresh and high quality. I actually had to look around and make sure I wasn’t sitting in a gourmet restaurant.
The staff was excellent from start to finish.. friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely helpful. They even gave recommendations on other places to check out while I’m in the area, which I really appreciated. On top of that, they made sure to tell me about their happy hour deals and other specials to lure me back… and I think it’s working.
Overall, a fantastic experience with great food, great service, and a welcoming atmosphere. Highly impressed and will definitely be back.

You gotta have a Nancy, some bean dip, and ordinarily I would say the Resist Temptation, but the Hot Ham and Cheese hot the spot!

Visiting with a local who said we had to order the raspberry chipotle black bean dip and he was right. It was amazing. I went with the steak and cheddar sandwich and while it was tasty, there wasn’t a ton of steak on it. The potato salad was divine with egg and bacon bits in it. Drinks standardly subpar and exactly what you’d expect for a college bar. Although the hostess was quite surly, we had great service at the table. It’s a small joint so it can get pretty loud but at least during dinner tables seemed to rotate pretty quickly and we only had a short wait to be seated.
A great menu and fabulous staff! We had the Saloon Burger is a bowl of the Pork Green Chili Stew, fantastic!
