We’ve visited here twice in the past two weeks. Our 1st meal was their amazing Friday night prime rib deal. It was worth every penny, and we couldn’t get enough of the smoked Aggies. On our 2nd visit, we tried the Spicy Chicken Clucker sandwich, and the owner recommended the white cheddar mac and cheese, which was fantastic. Their corn muffins are our son’s favorite, so we had to order extra for him. The owner is very friendly and very passionate about his food. We can’t wait to come back and try more food.

The rib tips are a steal. Great taste and a price you can’t beat. $5 per pound
This place is a hidden gem. Always great BBQ here. However, new ownership needs to order enough food to meet the demand. Last few times I’ve been here they have been sold out of certain mainstays like brisket and fries etc. I understand they’re probably still getting the hang of things but this needs to be fixed pronto. The BBQ is just too good to let folks down at the order counter. Final note, please don’t serve your prime rib (Friday special) with plastic forks. Mine broke while I was trying to eat it and plastic just doesn’t go with a higher cut of meat like prime rib. Overall these guys and gals are killing it although they have a few small kinks here and there. I have no doubt the new owners will get these things figured out. They are passionate about this business, the quality of food and especially their customers.

Recently we have had very close friends/family go through difficult times, and I volunteered to get a good dinner meal for a fairly large group of people on short notice due to these circumstances. Obviously I selected J’s having no idea how everything would be except for looking very briefly through reviews. Everyone commented on how wonderful the food was. Most all of them (except me and my folks) live in the Olathe/Overland Park area, and every single family asked where I got the great BBQ. Of course, I let them know … J’s. Needless to say, they will very likely be back to enjoy J’s in the future.
My personal THANK YOU for your help, support, and kindness on such short notice by the entire team! Special Thanks to Zoe (sp?)!
Best burnt ends & sauce in entire KC area. The new ownership cleaned the place very well & kept the original sauce. Great!
It was better when it was Johnny's.
Burnt ends were good. Pulled pork was bland. Smoked turkey was dry and not much flavor. Interesting options for sauces. The apple sauce tasted like apple cider vinegar....and wow, its expensive! $25 for burnt end sandwich, fries, large drink!

Brisket on the sandwich was dry and definitely didn't seem fresh. Hardly any noticable smoke flavor on the meat The crinkle cut fries had absolutely no salt or seasoning. The chili cup was ok but was a bit greasy. KC has some great BBQ but this misses the mark.
We were devastated when Johnnys closed but now it is back! Thanks @joshsbbq for Bringing it back!
I'm from Ohio and travel all over the country. Some of the best bbq I've had!!
6/25/25 From Johnny's to J's. Stopped in for lunch today and OMG... What a great experience! Appreciate the renovations and the improved streamlined flow for getting my meal! The Burnt ends lunch special ($12.99) was no doubt the best meal I've had! This is a hidden gem in Olathe you must try.
Went to lunch on a Sunday and we were a bit disappointed. The first meal came out cold and had to send it back. They remade it but it still seemed like the meat was not all that fresh. The beans were good but we believe they are Bush’s baked beans so of course they’re good. The second meal, the turkey was very dry. The kids meal was the last to come out and we were already done eating. Those with kids (toddlers specifically) know the kids meal is the most important to get out quickly. They did try to make things right with a gift card and everyone was very nice. Just a lot of money for what we received.
