Would give zero stars if I could. I stopped by after work on Friday last week to purchase cupcakes for a small birthday gathering later that night. I pulled up in front of the store at 6:03pm, just as the lights turned off inside. I walked up to read the store hours on the door and it said they’re open till 8:00pm on Friday. An employee inside saw me so I just stood there until she came to the door. She opened it a crack and said they were closed. I told her the sign on the door and hours posted online said they close at 8:00. She said ‘we don’t have enough people’. Not sure if she meant they don’t have enough staff or customers, but either way she and I were both right there during posted business hours and she didn’t allow me in. I said they need to update their signs if they close earlier now and she said again that they don’t have enough people. I told her she just lost a sale and she said ‘oh, that’s fine’, locked the door and walked away. I won’t return.

I am very dissatisfied with this establishment. This is my second visit, and the staff are not wearing gloves. When I requested that they put them on, they both reacted with a negative attitude. Why would I want their ungloved hands handling my cupcake and visibly touching the icing?
I have also called and emailed the manager to address this concern, but she has not replied. Unbelievable!

worst cupcake shop ever. ordered cupcakes from here for my baby shower and when we went to pick them up they were NOTHING like what had been asked for or paid for when we asked about it the employee was rude and stated she was just the closer. after standing around for about 20 min she finally called the owner and they said they would remake them and we could pick them up in the morning (the day of the party) when i got there they had only made 24 cupcakes when i needed 30 and there was pink on the cupcakes (this was a boy baby shower and pink was NEVER asked for...) when asked who i could contact i was pointed to a little card and told there was nothing i could do but email. i emailed april 27th at 10:36 am and it is now may 1st and i have heard absolutely NOTHING back. i called on monday and was told they would let the owner know and i would here back shortly. once again i have yet to hear back. the customer service here is absolutely horrible. i would not recommend a single soul buys cupcakes from here. update it is now may 10th and i have yet to hear back. this is becoming ridiculous. as a business owner you should want to make things right when your employees mess up so badly. you clearly do not value your customers whatsoever. shame on small cakes. do not purchase ANYTHING from them. i would just like to update and say it is now july 13th and they have responded to MULTIPLE reviews but not mine and never responded to my email. i genuinely cant believe the horrible customer service here. worst business ever.

Today is my birthday and I am grateful that I get to spend it with my family and CHOOSE to patronize Smallcakes Cupcakery!
1. I will never CHOOSE this cupcake place again!!
2. The young lady who was sitting with her boyfriend on the couch when we came in, didn't have on gloves.
3. When I asked her if she was supposed to wear gloves she said yes, BUT she kept touching cupcakes and putting them in our box. GROSS!!
4. When I said if you are supposed to wear gloves then I need you to put them on… she looked LOST!
5. I told her to start our box over and as soon as she did and I left to pay, I turned around to see those same cupcakes being put back into the display case.
THIS CAN NOT BE A ONE-OFF, because she was too comfortable doing the wrong thing!!!!
6. Word of mouth and reviews can ruin a business... Take heed to this review and provide her with feedback and some type of etiquette course.

I bought 8 almond cupcakes on Monday for a birthday party on Tue. Sadly they were inedible, with at least 4X too much almond extract in BOTH the frosting and the cake. (Almond extract is made from bitter almond oil and you only need a LITTLE.) I had noticed everyone was leaving the cake and then throwing it away. When I tried mine, I realized why. I discretely rescued them from the trash and set them aside.) I called the store the next day, on Wed. I left my name and number and was told the owner would contact me. It's been 3 days and I've heard NOTHING. We won't be back if this is how they treat their customers. The carrot cake may be good but I won't support bad customer service.

Absolutely love SmallCakes Olathe! They are my go to for all custom cakes and cupcakes. Recently ordered a cake for my stepson and there was a miscommunication with the picture on the cake. The owner went above and beyond to make it right and I couldn’t be more thankful. Not only are the cakes and cupcakes gorgeous but they taste amazing!

80.00 for 24 medium cupcakes for children's birthday party. Asked for a different assortment took look nice for display. half dumped over in the box. There were 4 varying shades of brown one box only had 2 varieties. I literally had to go to Walmart and buy 12 more , and theirs tasted better. So disappointed. I paid 6.00 for a.dozen compared to their 40.00 I expected them to look, and more importantly TASTE better than that. Never again. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY at this bakery. Frosting tastes like canned. Gross

I asked Smallcakes Olathe to make a gender reveal cake that we could smash for our toddlers party. We paid over $50 for this cake even though their website states that a 4” cake is $30. I went ahead and paid for them to make it as I did not want to make my own gender reveal cake. We then brought them the sonogram and left it with them until picking up the cake. Come party and cake time they literally did not put any color on the inside for the gender reveal at all. Very disappointing and really ruined the party. I reached out to them regarding this issue and I’ve just been ignored. I definitely will not trust them to make anything for me in the future.
