Having lived in KC the majority of my life, I've had quite the vastly different bbq spots to try.
The Rub may be the bottom of the list. The food isn't bad per say, but it's definitely not a place I'd ever take someone to eat real bbq.

Atmosphere is very Chipotle feeling. Food is good but not KC elite.

It’s not often that I’m impressed with Kansas City BBQ, but I was very impressed with The Rub. Great meat, you don’t need to soak it in a half a bottle of sauce. Employees are great. Friendly and helpful. Booked the private room for a retirement party and so glad we booked here. The Rub is the best in the area!!!

This is the most underrated BBQ in KC. As a former devout fan of the declining brand of the guys with the red bull logo, this place is my new go to. The pulled pork and brisket have solid smoke. Their sauces are tasty and the staff have always been welcoming. While the ambiance is not nearly as refined as some, they've invested in the food quality. As for the sub ratings from Texas BBQ fans, this place is in Kansas...its a different style.

I am 65 years old and I went into The Rub today (9/21/25) @ 5:30pm and was treated with courtesy, respect and kindness. It has been a long time since I received that kind of courtesy at a food establishment. I want to thank the young gentleman who helped me. Keep it up! Oh yeah, the food is awesome too.

We stopped in after soccer at Garmin Fields. The service was welcoming and great. We ordered a pound of pulled pork, three rib bones, and two orders of fries. The pork was dry and over salted. The flavor of the ribs was good but they were greasy. The fries were the highlight of the meal, perfectly cooked and seasoned. It’s an average BBQ joint by KC standards.

I have gone twice and both visits did not disappoint. Had a ham sandwich, very moist and not salty. Great fries. Second visit I ordered a Full Slab of ribs to go. Seasoned very well also not salty. Price on the slab is hands down the best I have encountered since Pre Covid. I will be back for more BBQ! Employees are very knowledgeable and friendly. Excellent BBQ!

I had the pleasure of tasting some of their dishes offered on their food truck this weekend. They have some of the best burnt ends I’ve had! The pulled pork was also a solid choice. The portions are large. My kids loved their white cheddar mac and cheese. The staff members were really friendly as well. We will definitely have to try out their larger selection at their restaurant.

I love this place!! The staff is ALWAYS friendly and polite. The food is outstanding, and their menu offers items that you don't typically associate with a BBQ place, although the typical is there if you're a purest. The portion size is generous, and the price is reasonable.
