I really love this place in downtown OP. All of their food is delicious 😋. Super sad that they don't offer their half order and full order of duck anymore. It was by far, one of my favorite items on the menu...keep up the great work, and bring back the duck!

For a Christmas eve, I was not one bit surprised that they handled the reservations, walk-ins, and take out so well! Chaotic, of course. But Dragon Inn doesn't disappoint. I'm a 2nd gen regular and not planning to stop that tradition!

Let me preface by saying, I've written one review in my 28 years alive on this beautiful earth. Not many things blow me away.

Short story time, my mother remarried when I was young to a Japanese man. So my (step)grandmother from Osaka, JP consistently cooked for me growing up. I loved her unique and authentic traditional Japanese cuisine, constantly craving her delightful dishes.

Now let me tell you something, if my grandmother saw the way I devoured my meal tonight at the Dragon Inn, she would be devastated. I don't even like Chinese food, but my entire viewpoint on Asian cuisine may have changed tonight. I haven't enjoyed a meal like that since who knows when.

My best friend and I ordered the General Tso's Chicken, Spicy Shredded Beef Szechuan Style, Egg rolls, Egg drop soup, and Crab Rangoons. The egg roll was a big as a coke can, the Rangoons were awesome, and the meals were unbelievable. We combined said 10 words to each other the entire meal. You know that crappy feeling you get after eating greasy Chinese food? Not here, we ate everything brought out, scraped our plates and promised to see the staff again soon.

This was probably the best sit down meal I've had in my life and I can't believe I just typed that out. 50 years of Kansas City excellency, Dragon Inn & the To-Ping Tsui family are a staple.

100/10 Review if I could give it.

It took us a few minutes to decide what to order. And they gave us plenty of time and checked on us, and answered all the questions we had about the menu. The food was delicious and the staff was friendly. I will return and enjoy them again!

Worst Chinese food I've ever eaten!

Meat was tough. Tables were sticky. Overall cleanliness below par. No knives.

The service was very friendly and welcoming but we won't be back.

I should have listened to my gut instincts when we walked passed the kitchen and saw the chaos inside, then the dirty foyer and interior.

Placed a to go order. Crab Rangoon is pretty good and the hot and sour soup is the reason we come here. Lo mein was still hot when we got home, hunan chicken had good quality meat and fresh veggies.

Ordered general tsos and seseme tofu (after being reassured by staff that this is a normal thing they prepare)
Very disappointed in them. Mostly tastes like a brown sauce and the tofu is meh. Not great either. You also get half the serving size you get at other places for the same price.
The fried rice tastes like it was cooked on a very dirty wok.
Crab ragoon is decent.

Overall would not recommend. Much better food elsewhere, for cheaper and you get more food for your money.

Picked up a takeout order last night and was so disappointed! Our main dish lacked color and had zero spice. The crispy noodles and the small egg rolls were both cooked too long. Everything just tasted like old warmed up food. It was an expensive meal for such poor quality. We have always preferred Dragon Inn, but we are going to give Pine and Bamboo another try.

Stopped in for a solo dinner. Had a great experience. This is a classic Chinese restaurant, from the enormous menu of classic Chinese dishes to the decor. While it all seemed vintage in a way, everything was well-kept and in good condition. The staff could not have been nicer. Service was so welcoming, and everything was served with efficiency. Portions are huge and prices are reasonable, making this place a bargain for the quality. Food was excellent. An egg roll was crisp on the outside and had flavorful fillings that had good texture. Chicken chop suey (hard to find these days!) was wonderful, with moist chicken and crunchy water chestnuts and other veggies in a sauce that was just the right thickness. A wonderful little spot in downtown Overland Park, worth a visit for anyone who appreciates a local business that's a classic Chinese spot.
