This place is truly a hidden gem. I've had the best sushi and sashimi from some of the best restaurants around America and the world. I'm not sure where the owners came from or why they would choose Overland Park of all places, but the food is delightfully scrumptious! The service is top notch and so friendly. And what's more, the prices are obscenely cheap. Like dirt cheap. Mid-2000s cheap when sushi/sashimi was brand new to me as a poor college kid and the memories of that time have been emblazoned into my memory. Too cheap to the point where I would feel guilty leaving anything less than a 40% tip for fear of feeling like a cheapskate. Trust me, you'll like this place.

Came here on a whim and it was INCREDIBLE. Hands down the best sushi I’ve had in KC (and I already had a few fav spots). Everything was insanely fresh, the restaurant itself is so clean and cute, staff was wonderful.

Honestly, this is one of the only bastions of eating out left. I feel like I can get a good serious meal and not pay a million dollars for it. It's fair and I leave the restaurant feeling happy and not like I overpaid for nothing.

We have been here three times the past 2 months. We have made plenty of rounds around town at different sushi joints. Sushi mido, sushi uni, blue sushi, ra sushi, oishi sushi etc. But Sam’s has hands down been the freshest and most affordable sushi we have found. The waitress we have had has always been super friendly and very kind to our children. Our kids like straight nigiri tuna, and when we told her she got them the same amount, but just sliced a little thinner so it was easier for them to handle with chopsticks. Be prepared that they do not serve fountain drinks, but everything is canned or bottled. No free tap water, this doesn’t bother us at all because prices are affordable. Their lunch special is a must try. My husband got the lunch special with the eel + avocado (their eel is like butter, it’s amazing) and tuna + avocado, while I got the sexy tuna and crazy ninja roll. My husband’s favorite after 3 visits is now the crazy ninja roll and mine is definitely the sexy tuna roll. They served us miso soup at no charge and honestly I don’t usually like miso soup but theirs is tasty and it seems homemade and not packaged. They include seaweed as well, which is a major plus. Most places just give you a couple green onions without any tofu, or seaweed. It’s definitely a hidden gem in OP and always clean inside. People love to get to-go orders, that’s mostly what we see but service is great if you want to sit down. Skip other places in town and give this one a shot.
