The sweetheart roll is mind-blowing with an explosion of flavor that is subtle because of the soy paper roll, which helps bring out the spicy tuna with no fish taste and the creamy avocado. Despite being land-locked in Kansas City, if you have a sushi craving this won't disappoint!

We had to wait for refills, the mediocre teriyaki arrived well before the sushi.... I'm talking something like an hour before. It was a very painful wait, especially with kids.

We were there on a weekday night, not very busy then. Waitress was ok but spent most of her time sitting at the bar. Soup, salads & sushi all came at same time followed by Hibachi orders about 5 min later-too Quickly! Sushi was very good, but Hibachi shrimp & steak were tough & flavorless! Scallops & fried rice were fine. The only dipping sauce was a very weak & ice cold ginger-yuck! Lastly, vegetables were mostly undercooked broccoli & food was getting cool before we could eat it! .

I have been going to Sawa for several years now; I eat sushi at least once per week and have tried most local options. Exceptional taste for their sushi rolls and the price is reasonable. Highly recommend as one of the better sushi restaurants in the city, and somewhat of a hidden gem.

Love the hibachi. I think about the clear soup often. Nearly every day I think about it. The chicken, rice and veggies were cooked perfectly. My salad was crisp and fresh. I can't express enough how often I have thought about it since I was last there. That was 2 months ago and I'm just now writing this review because im thinking about it again.. you get the idea

Warning these isnt table size hibachi. Got hibachi steak only got 7 pieces. It was tough and very chewy for medium rare . Got tempura chicken for an appitizer it only had two pieces of chicken and the rest were just random fried vegetables. Could have been worse but could have been better

This little hole in the wall, the looks are deceiving from the outside. The interior is small but beautiful. The service was extremely fast. All the food arrived at the same time, that was the only issue I experienced. They have a large menu, appetizers, sushi, hibachi. They offer sushi raw, cooked and fried. We tried the Tokyo Roll-lobster salad and shrimp with a mango sauce, very delicious and I recommend this if you can’t do raw sushi. Although it isn’t cook in front of the hibachi is excellent. I will visit this restaurant again. I am eager to try different foods the offer. I highly recommend this restaurant.

We’ve lived here 20 years and just discovered this gem!! Adorable, cozy atmosphere, wonderful, friendly service and our rolls were to die for - and we eat a lot of sushi! Highly recommend the sweetheart roll and the KC roll. Can’t wait to come back.

The food is sooooo delicious here, I refuse to go anywhere else for sushi/hibachi. The waitress there during the week is the absolute best, remembers my family's order and is just efficient and polite but doesn't talk your ear off. Stop by and try their KC roll- you won't be sorry
